Has anyone else actually been physically sick when picking up poop! Any suggestions how to get round it?

Even is i hold a scented rag over my mouth and nose i still heave!!!!

Is it more the thought than the smell?

Part of my job involves picking up large amounts of poo (faecal re-depositing  ;)) be it big or small, soft or hard or even projectile! Too much information?  ;D

I think the more you do it the more used to it you become.  Saying that, I have a snot/slaver phobia which makes me gag big time, I just try not to think about it too much!  Ewwwww  :P

I cannot pick up water poo...... I'm afraid i leave it.... but it doesnt make me gag...thank god.....

Suggest OP desensitizes herself...or think about other things while doing the job.... holding your breath is a good one..then you cant smell it.....

Its never really bothered me for some reason but a woman i met out walking said her meathod was to hold her breath and pretend its choclate ice cream! I think if you do it for long enough then you get desensitized.

Chocolate ice-cream?? I'll never look at choccy ice cream like that again....

Yeah, might be able to pick up poo but would become phobic about choccie ice cream!

Yup done the sick thing....dogs need taking out even if you go on a bender and have a massive headache and sensitive stomach the morning after.

I tend to try and get upwind so the smell doesn't waft my way....and I hold my breath. If I feel queasy I just move away to get fresh air, settle myself and then start again.

I had a kitchen floor painted brown when Vio was ill.....I almost gagged at the stench, let alone cleaning it up......by half way through I'd become inured to it.

I often go to work in the morning and have had the 'poo painters' in.  (dogs that do a poo, jump around in it and wipe it all over the walls and your clothes).   Hangovers and poo DO NOT mix, did it once, never again!  ;D

I use scented nappy sacks to pick both of mine up, you do get used to it, and if there's any runny I pick up what I can then hose the patch down.  There have been occasions when I have heaved when he hasnt been very well, my major heaving phobia is vomit though, cant go near the stuff!

Meh not bothered. OH cant pick up poop in the poo bags with his hand, he needs the plastic thing. I dont mind the warm squidgy feeling :D:D

It doesn't bother me either......It's nowhere near as bad as changing nappies, which I have to do day in and day out  ::) OH is a real wimp though and starts gagging and stuff  ::) ;D

I usually use the "poop freeze" spray that I got a while back, if either of the dogs OD on their tripe and get runny bots - It has the added bonus of diluting the odour (at least to me) when it freezes the poop, ready for the "bag `n` bin" process, as I call it. ;D

I seem to recall Johnny Vaughn calling them 'Winter hand warmers' ;D  I like that guy

I'm ok with it - only once have I gagged and I do not know what Tonks had eaten, but it was runny and much worse foul smelling than usual!  It was the smell that made me retch.

I could never picture chocolate icecream though!  Ruin one of the best foods going!

Had lots of nappies to do for over 4 years and let me tell you chit up & down the legs of a baby & pish is alot worse than any doggy poo ;D

The worst is when your changing a little boys nappy and as you open it he pees right in your face :o

The first things mine did when they were born was pee on me!  I seem to spend my whole day cleaning up poo! (Potty training one and nappies the other)

My OH gags at the smell of it even when he's not picking it up!  ::)

Picking up never bothers me. But the smell of the dog bin does.

Tess once had really bad diarrhoea and did a pool of it on the living room carpet (cream carpet!).  OH couldn't stomach the smell so opened all the windows and gagged until I came home from work 30 minutes later.  I can cope with anything that comes out of a dog or a baby, but once a child is weaned I can't cope with either vomit or diarrhoea and with 3 kids I've had my fair share of it.  I spent my 40th birthday cleaning up puke in the boys' bedroom - delightful!  I hold my breath and do my best.

I'm ok with dogs poo, and changed  a few nappies in a nursery, that were yuck!
Did you have to say it's like chocolate ice cream! I think sale's for chocolate ice cream is going to go down, after people have read this thread!
My worst was when i once worked in a hotel as a cleaner, there was a party the night before, a mess the next morning as usual, but this time, i couldn't beleave it, i nearly walked out! the mens toillets, looked like someone had smeared poo all over the toilet inside and out and the walls and floor! (i am not kidding).. i refussed to clean i up on my own, we had to take the toilete to bits to clean it. I did get extra money for it though! Yippy (not) I left not long after that..

When I was at Polytechnic (before they changed the name to university) it never ceased to amaze me how often people had painted the whole toilet cubicle when caught short, you could go through a whole line of cubicles before finding a relatively clean one to use.  In all my 40 years I have never missed the pot.

Have you got a very sensitive stomach/nose or are your dogs stools so offensive that anyone would gag?

My dogs are fed raw so picking up after them is not a problem as it is hard, crumbly and odourless

What do you feed?  It hasn't bothered me since switching Rupe from Butchers to Burns, it just doesn't stink like it did before. 
Rupert threw up the other day though, I thought I was going to join him while I was cleaning it up.  And that was cleaning it up with the old mop kept just for that purpose.  God help me if I ever have to use a cloth!

Mmmm fig rolls, I love em, haven't had one for ages. I'll put them on the shopping list  :)

Not bothered by Tuscan's poop or upchuck, but for some reason other dogs mess does turn my stomach a bit.

I said earlier I don't mind sick or poo, no matter how smelly but I cannot abide snot or slavers!   :P :P :P  *gag*

The new huggies baby wipes with aloe vera actually smell quite nice  ;D

Only have to pick up smelly and horrible poo's when Maya has been wormed.
Otherwise only pick up small, firm, nearly odourless stools.

My mate used to heave as soon as he got near his dogs stools.  ;D

A lot less waste coming out the other end really is one of the major benefits.

Would dogs poop more on other food?  Or is the poop just dry and compact on barf?

my two's poops are small, dry and compact on JW.  Well Sisky's aint so small, but she does have malabsorbtion.

Mine are on raw and they poo twice a day, it is hard, perfectly formed and almost odourless. You have to hold it right up to your nose to get a smell!

Also if I leave it in the garden then within a few hours it dries up and crumbles away. Ahh the joys of barf.

Sometimes once, mainly twice and very rarely 3 times per day.

Also where RAW fed dogs stools are firm and they strain a little, it helps to exercise their anal sacs which can help prevent problems such as impaction and infection etc etc.

Lol it was experimental, I felt the need to see if it had any odour at all ;D

Thats the thing with RAW, you do have to pay a bit more attention than usual to your dogs stools. They are an excellent indicator of what your dog needs. i.e if the stools are too soft feed more bone, to hard then feed more meat.

What aspect of bone bulks up poo?

Only when I had a hangover - I don't recommend it! Scented nappy bags help  ;D
