Anyone out there want to talk sensible Rottweiler talk, I am besotted by them I love everything about them (well except Scrumpy is the clumsiest dog in the world) when we had the snow mine went mad I got some great photos, so come on if you are interested in the breed, own the breed whatever.  NO MACHO MEN PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rottie,

I am currently owned by a 15 mnth Rottweiler: I also adore the breed. They are fantastic dogs, such a shame the reputation they have, although most people who meet a Rottie with some manners can quickly be convinced that their fears are not justified.

There are other members of the board who I know also love the breed and may be keen to chat :)

Yes, once you have had a rott it spoils you for other breeds. I have 8 they all live in the house together 2 males and 6 ladies. Asti or Granma as she is affectionately called is nearly 12 and the oldest and Ruby is the youngest at 10 months of age. I love taking them to the beach, some like the water and some dont, but they all like going in the woods I think that is their favourite although Scrumpy and Stella love swimming in the sea.
any more rott enthusiasts out there?

I'm back trying to drum up some Rottweiler support/debate.
Last week I picked 2 male rotts up from the local stray kennel because they were at the end of there 9 days or however long it is that they give them. One was smaller than average and a sweetheart the kennelmaid had called him Frankie the other one was really tall but skin and bone so I called him Bennie ( Sort of after the restaurants?)
Anyway Good News!! they both have new homes and are settled in already. I am getting so many calls from people wanting to give up their Rotts and the numbers being bred has really risen this last few months.
If we are not careful we will be in the same situation we were about 5 years ago  when we had all the bad publicity and we were run off our feet at rescue and had to let a lot of this beautiful breed down.
Breeders this is a special breed, vet home properly and only let them go to live with special people.
Its great dog walking weather today here on the east coast, really cold but lovely and sunny, not long been in after having my mob out for two and a half hours, must go and have somethign to eat now cos I'm starving.

I too am a great rottie lover, had three but lost one just after Christmas.
Cant work out if mine are the normal or not but would never make the grade as devil dogs, they are just to damm soft!

Seeing as two of mine were rescue dogs and have suffered at the hands of fools they are the sweetest things going.

And of course to be different we have a Red Rottie, yes he is a full pedigree, just him and sister were red out of a full litter.

Lesley

Oh and I have to mention our neo x bordeaux pup who thinks he is a rottie, so please dont tell him different!!!

Hi i also have a soft spot for this great breed i have a rottie x lab, and a ped rottie and we think she is a rottie her mum is but they came from the local shelter.
My middle dog the older of the 2 bitches is a P.A.T dog and is no where near the devil dog image every one thinks the dogs are.
When my hubby comes home they fight to get on his knee and go to sleep in his arms.
Gail and the gang.

Now then Red Rotties and Maverick,
You are sOOOOOOOOOOO right, My rotts are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard when it comes to protection.
I have Asti (Granma) 12yrs in May, her daughter Taboo (she is a Champion in the show ring), her  brother Martell (my flatcap and slippers man, he is so laid back), then there is Dimple ( she has bone cancer but is very comfortable at the moment), then there is her half sister Stella (Stella wella wus pants, to her friends) Scrumpy, Ginty and Ruby are all Taboos babies.
Its great dog walking weather at the moment, although we have a lot of deer around at the moment so we have to be careful, I dont take them all out together I go three times, they are very good but if you bumped into someone with an aggressive dog or something went wrong then 8 dogs are too much for anyone to deal with on their own, dont you think?
Do your dogs run into you when you are out? Or is it just mine?
I had qualified 3 dogs to go to Crufts but Ginty was pregnant so I didnt bother entering and then she absorbed the pups so now I wish I had enetered. Oh well, I will just have to go and shop!!

Clumsy is a word I use quite often usually with other words following!! There seems to be quite a rottie following going to Crufts this year, I think I will be the one with all the carry bags.  I know I need some car stickers from rottie welfare cos I cant find any others and believe me I have looked, and may need a sweatshirt, oh and a polo shirt cos I have been told it gets warm in there in the afternoon. My husband cant make it so he will need a rottie type pressy. Then the dogs will need some new stuff.  I have been to Cheshire dogs home today, just for a look, and got a wonderful new lead.  The trouble is it was just a sample and they only had the one.  It has quite a wide handle part and then the middle bit, what would usually be the chain part, is a spring.  Made by Royal Canin.  It is suppose to lessen the strain on your back if your dog pulls.  Tried it on our big lad tonight and its brilliant, although Red is good he can sometimes be a bit excitable and this was just so good.  So now need two more of those, maybe three just in case!!! Oh I love to dog shop

I have started saving already, I usually spend all my cash and give the old plastic card a bit of a battering too. Luckily my husband is coming with me because there is no way I could carry everything myself.
Are you going on the friday Lesley, we are the traffic will be horrendous but the NEC should be bettter than the weekend.
Have had my dogs on the beach today, it was freezing but they dont seem to bother with how cold it is and Scrumpy still went for a swim.
I have been sitting with Dimple just now as she is having absent healing and so everyone I know thinks healing thoughts for her at 9pm every night and I sit with her and put my hands on her knee (where the cancer is) I feel a very strong pulse, I feel it is having a positive effect she is much brighter in her self and I feel much more positive too.
Back to Crufts, I need a figurine of a Labrador for a member of committee who is resigning this year and I would like new leads, some collars, oh and bandanas my dogs love 'em, dog beds I collect those like Emelda Marcos collects shoes, I love books!!!  I am a bit fussy when it comes to pictures and figurines of Rotts, I have had so many over the years that I only like REALLY good ones ( look on the Karrylite stall!!)
I always look for Deerhound, Labrador, Border Terrier,Dachshund and Yorkies cos i have friends with all of these breeds. Then there is shopping for the kennels - slip leads, combs, brushes, clipper blades - need I go on!

We are going Friday. We have decieded to set off really early, well I will get a bit more sleep than Gail as she is coming down from Morcambe to pick me up!! We hope to arrive around 7 am so we miss a lot of the traffic.

How long has Dimple been suffering for?  Do you feel that absent healing really works? Does her temperment change on days she is in pain?Do your other dogs realise that they need to be a bit more gentle with her?

I lost my rescue girl early January to a Gastric tumour, poor love went down hill in a week. She was only six and had suffered in the six months before I got her.  She was my sofa babe, dont think she could believe her luck on finding such comfort, it took food before she would leave it, or a very full bladder!

Post by: rottie on February 23, 2003, 09:36: AM
Lesley,
Its a difficult question about the absent healing, I think it lifts my spirits and Dimple REALLY likes it, you know when you have to face something like this and you are a "doer" you have to DO something and quite frankly there is not much one can do.  So looking at it from that angle at least I am doing SOMETHING. On a more positive note I wouldnt be doing it if I thought it was silly (as some people do) I think there are more forces and unknowns on this planet than we know about, its doing no harm and making both of us feel better, I am also going down to London for some hands on healing, so if you want I will let you know how I get on?
Let me explain a little about Dimple, she is like 10 Rottweilers rolled into one body and always has been, she is the life and soul of the party, she is slightly lame but is on painkillers she still likes to go out but I only take her with Granma and I keep Dimple on a flexi lead, she still digs up mole hills and has a route around, while her quality of life is good we will carry on , but I will not let her suffer when the time comes I have to be brave.
Anyway, who knows, just maybe the healing will work and we will have her into her old age.  I am feeling quite positive as yesterday I had lunch with the vet and was giving her an update and when I said she is only on 1 +1/2 Rimadyl a day (down from 4) she couldnt believe it!!
I know how painful this condition is as I have had the misfortune to lose another of my precious companions to it about 3 years ago, so the very fact that she is on low painkillers and is exhibiting no signs of pain is a bit of a miracle in itself, so anyone reading this PLEASE think healing thoughts for Dimple at 9pm each night when you can, the more people the merrier.
Just looked back at my post my how I go on!
CHanging the subject now -  I am going to pick up a Rott bitch from the stray kennels on Thursday I saw her when i last picked the 2 boys up but she had not been there long enough to come out, her time is up Thursday, so i will collect and she will get a new home.
Just a quick question to anyone reading this post, where do they all come from? Who throws a mature pedigree dog out? and why? I mean I know the odd one will be lost or stray off but come on there are far too many being picked up off the street.  Maybe the low price that a lot of backstreet breeders charge is detrimental to the breed making them a disposable commodity?  What does anyone else think?
I mean the flip side of higher prices is this (in my humble opinion) if reputable breeders put their prices up and some are charging £800.00 then surely the backstreet breeder can put his price up to lets say £400.00 for an unregistered pup so that in itself makes the Rottweiler into a better prospect for unscrupulous people to breed from?
What does anyone else think??
I breed (not very often) and I am in contact with EVERY puppy I have bred and vet homes strictly, if there is ANYTHING I do not like when I meet prospective puppy owners then the answer is NO.
All my puppies go with a breeding restriction that is signed by the new owner and this ensures that a puppy is not being bought as a breeding machine, I would rather keep them all (and I have the space) then  they go the the wrong home, I will also not sell to anyone who is wanting to keep the dog outside. Rottweilers (as do all dogs) want to be with you.
If I could have my dogs with me 24 hours a day I would, I do work from home but still have to do some work with boarders!!!
Anyway I have gone on enough now, please post your thoughts even if you arent lucky enough to have a Rottweiler for your best friend.

I will keep Dimples on my thoughts.  Good luck with your trip to London, please do let us know how you get on.

I dont know what the answer is to the problem of dogs in Rescue. It amazes me to the sheer amount of older dogs that come in, not just our breed but others to.  My dogs are part of my family and couldn't bear to be with out them. On another site we have been talking about doggy godparents.  If anything should happen to us and our families are not in the position to take on our dogs a desinated person will take them on, if they cant keep them they will endevour to find new forever homes with the right people rather than them ending up in rescue.

I always worry for breeds such as ours ending up in the wrong hands, they get such a bad time from the press etc and joe public gets a blurred view of them.

Unfortunatly our society is a throw away one and to some a dog is just a dog.  I for one would like to see stricter breeding controls.  I know the kennel club will only register so many pups out of a certain bitch, but now we have other registers too which confuses people.  It is time the Kennel Club did more than just register pups, they are in a good position to do so.  I wouldnt like to stop the breeding of dogs, I would hate to think I could never get another rot but something needs to be done.  I agree that high prices do open the door for backstreet breeders and puppy farmers.  I know the cost of raising a litter is high but some prices do get silly especially if you are just wanting a family pet.

I will be quiet now as this is one of my favourite rants and could go on forever about it.  Good luck for Thursday and let us know how you get on with her.

Lesley

Thanks for those kind words Lesley.
Have you heard of the Cinnamon Trust?
It is a charity based in Cornwall and they look after your dogs in a home environment when you die or if you get infirm and cannot walk your dogs anymore they have volunteers all over the country that will come and walk your dog  I am a member because my husband and I dont have any children to look after our dogs for us when and if!
I have had dealings with them through the boarding kennels and they are fantastic, really kind and nothing is too much trouble for them.
I have been out taking pictures of my mob in the woods its gorgeous here the sun is shining and its very mild.

HI,
just thought i would give you an update on Dimple.  She is now off the Rimadyl altogether and she is sound on her leg, I cannot believe it!!
Its like a miracle, I am going to see the healer again next Tuesday and my vet is astounded by Dimples improvement. I feel SO positive about it all now.
Anymore Rottweiler enthusiasts out there?
Come on join in and revel in your rotties!!

Brilliant News about Dimples.  You must be so happy.  At least now your trip to Crufts can be less stressful than worrying about her quite as much at home. Well done the both of you.

I am going to watch the Gundogs on TV tonight and I think the Rott should stand a good chance in the group this year.
Have a good trip and dont spend too much money hahahahaha!

Still shattered from yesterdays trip!

It was a brilliant day out.  Spent a long time around the rotties.  I was a little disappointed on how small they seem to be getting these days, almost lab size, and how dark they are getting to.

There were a couple that I would have brought home with me. One was only 12months old but he was huge. Cant remember his name but it had commanchie in it, I think he will be one to watch in a few years time when he fills out.  The other it was his last time at Crufts as he is now 9 and going to retire from the show ring, he was owned by a Mr and Mrs Robinson from Lincon.  But in all fairness they were all lovely.

The other big impact was the English Mastiffs...lovely

Rottie,

If you would like homechecks done in my area, just ask, I have done quite a lot of homechecks for the RSPCA, including for Rotties.

It is good news about Dimples, and there is a web site that gives information on alternative theropies including EFT. www.caninecaregroup.net/dogframes.htm  There is a lot of information about the different holistic theropies which you may find interesting.

Unless a dog has neurology problems, they are not born agressive but are made that way by man.

Wonderful aka - Gentle Bears.
Don't own one - but am "Auntie D" to two. Very well trained, but when I walk into the room (with owners permission) training goes out the window (owners shake their heads and laugh) as one is snuggled up to get a tail scratch and the other has its muzzle in my pocket (where Auntie keeps the treats). They have to work for their treats - but not to hard - after all who could resist those soft brown eyes!!
I get infuriated with generalizations that Rotties are dangerous by nature.
I get even more infuriated when I hear of people who have intentionally turned a Rottie into a mean animal.

Thanks for that Emmy,
What area are you in?
Havent been in the chat room for a while, have had another 400 mile round trip to the healer with Dimple, also too have been tempted and bought myself a new puppy,  they do not leave much spare time for the computer but who cares she is gorgeous!!!!!  I have had her a week now and she is settled into a routine etc. All the other dogs adore her.
Hi Redrotties,
We too had a great day at Crufts only really ruined by the judging (and I can say that seen as I wasnt entered). The bitch judging was without a doubt some of the worst judging i have ever seen and the Dog judging wasnt much better. We only sat by the ringside for about an hour speaking to friends etc. Then off to spend, spend, spend!!

Those are really kind words Goldengirl, many thanks we need all the pro rottweiler people we can get, bye for now

Hi Red Rotties,
Sorry for the delay in replying but have been too busy with the new puppy and Dimple etc.
But will bring you up to date now -
My new pup is called Perry and she is to die for, yummy want to eat her all up, snog her lips off and the like (do you know what i mean?). You have to put the time in right at the begining dont you, we have had her I think 3 weeks now and she is clean in the house the other dogs love her (well everyone but Stella, but then she is a bit of a grumpy guts really) Ruby is so grateful she is not the baby anymore and Scrumpy is besotted with her need I go on. She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen - are you jealous enough yet LOL. She has bonded very strongly with me she is a little car sick but i took her to ringcraft training on Friday and she was a star. Enough already I hear you say so I will leave it there.
Dimple is progressing very nicely thankyou for asking she is having very little medication and the vet now thinks the diagnosis was wrong ( well they would wouldnt they, anything but say something alternative is working !!
The bitch at the stray kennel I picked up and has been rehomed and I have taken 2 males since then, i do not know what is happening but i have never had such a busy year it has never stopped in this area since Christmas.  Baa Humbug!!
Hope all is well with all the Rott owning fraternity, post soon, kind regards to everyone

Not fair, stamps feet, what a lovely name, Perry.

Get news about Dimples, with you not being around recently was worried about what was happening.

Are you around Merseyside?  The reason I ask is I was recently told a tale about a localish shelter that would not rehome rotts, it won't take the risk?????? But the kennel staff have an arrangement with a nice lady who as soon as one comes in they hide it from the manager and ring her to collect it.

Keep up the good work you do, only wish I had the room!

Hi Lesley, Hows things?
I am in East Yorkshire, I have boarding kennels and always keep a spare kennel or so for needy Rotts. I feel its the least I can do for a breed that I get so much pleasure from I tend not to re-home but do that through Northern Rottweiler Rescue in Halifax, I have been there so often these past few weeks that I am sure my car would go there on its own!!
aww! hubby just came in and said look at the dogs... Ruby on the settee legs akimbo, Perry on the chair having a dream chasing rabbits or the such and Dimple on the other chair snoring her fat head off!!  Granma Asti is in the study with me in her wicker basket gently snoring and farting bless 'em. Tuthers are all in the dog sitting room watching the TV!!
Dads taking them out round the field now - I digress!
Its so lovely to know that you were thinking of Dimple she practically has a fan club, the support I have had from everyone has been over whelming.
How sad your local shelter will not re-home Rotts, they are no more of a risk than any other breed and i should know I handle allsorts. Mmm.. yes got a rather scrummy leonburger boarding at the moment and just had 4 fab Brittany spaniels.  I love ALL dogs.
Come on and rave about the dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D Hi Rottie how good it is to see some one rant on about rotties so it's not just me and Lesley that do it. Not been on the site for a long time as mypc went mad and i lost alot off my stuff but i am back know and i also love and own rotties.
As for crufts well i got my money's worth i went in at 8.15am and came out when they chucked us out after the last group judging we where lucky enough to be sat front row in the main ring just behind the rottie and what a handsome chap he was, i spent to much and walked round and still missed some of the trade stands.
I am in planning for next year start early.

Sorry i was on here as Maverick but had to chang my name when the pc had a fit.

Hi TignMolly,
Yes he is a lovely dog I have used his sire on one of my girls but she missed so I am going back in May. I can't wait I love puppies. I heard some sad news today Mavis Duffy of Wannonas fame has died, she bred some lovely Rotts. She bred my Asti (granma, noo noo knickers) and she in turn produced me my Champion. Bless, she will be sadly missed.
How many Rotts do you have?
Its so windy here we nearly got blown out of the field this morning the dogs really dont like it.
I have a healer coming tomorrow she is wonderful and I am sure that Dimple would not be here if it were not for Felicity.
Do you believe in stuff like that? I did think it was a bit bazaar but when faced with bone cancer and no cure I thought it was worth a go and i am so glad I did.  I actually think it has profoundly changed me!  How deep is that?? Keep posting Potty Rotty People!!!

Hi its me again, talking to myself no doubt (no change there then)
Felicity the healer came last Wednesday we now have crystals in lots of strategic places around the house and on TV's and the computer.
With all this positive energy flowing through the house I have got lots of things done and am being really gung ho!
My husband who falls asleep after his tea and has done for the last 10 years at least has been out working on the new cattery every night since and he thinks its all a load of bunkum. We have also got crystals in the dogs kennels (they are out there when I am working with the boarders during the day)
Dimple with the diagnosis of bone cancer has now been signed off and so we may not be seeing the healer for some time.
Has anyone had problems with cruciate ligaments in their Rotts. I was talking to a lady in Bullmastiffs the other day and she swore by Breeders Formula and reckoned that the reason we are having all these ligament  problems is due to the lack of minerals in food (our food as well not just dogs) because this country is so intensely farmed the dogs are not getting the minerals from the food that they should(and neither are we!) they give Breeders Formula to the bitch in whelp and then to the pups and ask owners to keep them on it for the rest of there life and they have never had a ruptured cruciate  - let me know what you think !

Hi Gail & the gang,
The new puppy is called Perry she is a girl, she is such a sweetie she is much quieter than my puppies are, it is so long since I bought a puppy  in she has bonded very strongly with me even though we didnt get her until she was 10 weeks old.
She is not a brilliant eater but better than her brother who the breeder kept. She eats very slowly and sometimes needs one of the adult dogs to come along and look interested before she will eat it all up.
She is clean in the house now and has settled in to our routine, she sleeps at the side of our bed and we never hear a peep from her until about 6am bless her!
I have had her at two different ringcraft classes and she takes it all in her stride, she is very much like my first Rott was, a bit of a thinker and that was eek amount of years ago.
Speak soon with all your news
Must  go now and take her for her last night wees, Bye

Hi !  Its me again,
Just had a few minutes this Sunday morning so thought I would write a line or three ( like you do)  Well its glorious weather here in East Yorkshire although it is probably a little too warm for the Rotts in the middle of the day, my Rotts like going out when it is cool, so their long walk has been moved now from 11am ish to 6pm ish.
Exercise - what do you do?
My lot go out at 7am just round the field, then at 11am for their long walk if the weather is cool, out again 3pm in the field, quick wees and jobbies if needed at 6pm and then out before bed. They are such an adaptable breed when it comes to exercise they will do as little or as much as YOU want to do.
We are really lucky here we have a public footpath just running down the side of our field and it goes round in a circle it goes across fields and down the side of lots of woods (arent the bluebells pretty?) So lots of stimulation for the dogs noses. Sometimes we go to the beach which is about 8 miles away the dogs love it (but the fisherman are not so sure!)
Must go now and do some boring chores  bye....................

Hi Rottie how are you and the dogs doing, all my lot are fine have been out this morning but as it is the holidays every man and his dog was out so it was not as much fun as i had to keep calling the dogs back while some little runt of a dog kept running up to my lot and barking at them.
I got so fed up with it a went a told the owner to keep there dog under control and all i got back was you shouldn't have them sort of dogs out in public places well this is like a red rag to a bull saying this to me so a few words where exchanged and he went of saying he was going to get the police to make me remove my lot from a public place.
So i told him i would wait on the beach for him to come back but he never came back i was so mad.
It really makes me mad this sort of thing i wouldn't mind but one of my lot is a P.A.T. DOG Well i will be taking them out very early in the morning for the next 2 weeks so they can enjoy themselves the maddening thing is in winter you never see half of these people out.
Eny way thats enough of my moaning. I was over in Yorkshire at the weekend we went to Keighley on sunday don't know if that is near you or not. well i better go and get ready for work will chat to you soon.

Hi Tignmolly,
How awful for you!!  The Rottweilers never seem to start any trouble but they always seem to get the blame, in my experience it is always the little dogs on those bloomin silly flexi leads that are about a mile long!!
I go up a public footpath next to my field 3 times a day and never hardly see a soul unless of course as you have said the sun comes out and its a bank holiday - what a nightmare!!
No its not the dogs its the stupid owners half the time but isnt it funny I love wet cold days because you can have the park/public footpath/beach etc to yourself  bliss!  Well apart from the fishermen on the beach because they too come out in all weathers.
Anyway enough of this ranting.
have just come back from ringcraft with PERRY she is so laid back!!  Maybe not a good thing for the show ring but  a breeze at home. We just went for an hour and she met a 7 month St Bernard and a 10month old Staffie, she was eyeing up the puppy Pomeranian, but I think she would have squashed it!
Well being in the boarding kennel business I am getting keyed up for a very busy time.
I dont know about anyone else but my Rotts do not like the warm weather at all. I tend to take them for their  long walk after tea when it has cooled off somewhat, I am paranoid about them getting over heated.  I always give them some herbs in their dinner from Dorwest to help to keep them cooler and it seems to do the trick
Speak to you all soon, come on all you Rottweiler lovers have a rave about this most fantastic of breeds, must go and snog the lips off mine now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Folks, I'm new and have Beardies not Rotts but have trained with Scottish Rott Club in the past and have no probs with Rotties any more than any other breed. I met 2 for the first time yesterday and my 2yr old Beardie had a great game with them, like dogs and people there are some nice and some not so nice

Hi Ann and the Beardies,
What a funny coincidence, I was looking at some photos of a litter of 7 Beardie pups just 7 weeks old, how adoreable are they? All puppies are so cute.
Its nice to hear you met some nice Rotts on your walk. Whenever I meet like minded people or novice dog owners I always come away thinking to myself at least they have a good experience with big dogs which means the next time they pick up the paper and read something horrid about our beloved breed they will be telling friends or colleagues that they met some of these so called devil dogs and that they were lovely.
So come on out and walk all you Rottweiler owners with kind natured dogs and do some good PR for a breed that always needs it.
Bye for now.

Hi all you Rottweiler lovers out there!
Well what a to do!!! One of my puppy owners rang me up yesterday, well when I say puppy, they have two of my dogs one is five years old in June and the other is just two years old. They are both males and get on very well together and with other dogs.
Darren was walking them and they met a guy with two ( I cannot remember whether he said prison or police dogs) but there was not problems with aggression what so ever, they started walking together and the dogs where getting a little rough. (Personally I would not have walked with him I would have gone off on my own in a different direction) And all of a sudden the two prison/police dogs jumped on the younger of the two Rottweilers (again I dont think this was in an aggressive attack sort of a manor more just dominance in play). The upshot was that poor Bailey could not get up on his back legs at all and he had to be carried back to the car (and he is not a small dog )They rushed him straight to the vet who examined him etc. X-rays the lot and the upshot is that the dogs have ruptered both poor Baileys cruciate ligaments at the same time!!
They will be going to a specialist up in Scotland to have one repaired and then the other 6 weeks later at a cost of...wait for it....1,400.00 EACH
I wondered if any other owner out there has heard of such an accident.
My old lady Asti was run into sideways by another dog when in a training field and her cruciate snapped when she was 7 (she is 12 nearly now) and she has never looked back, but two together?
And six weeks between operations barely seems time to give the first cruciate time to heal.
Anyway I must go and walk the dogs and I am sorry to be a party pooper but its a little wet here and cooler and Personally I LOVE IT because the dogs LOVE IT. Post soon if anyone has any information that they may feel will be helpful.

Hi Rottie,

I do know of someone who had a Bull Mastiff in the same predicament and he recovered very well.  I'm sure the costs for them were something similar.

Drop me an email to alnicholl@aol.com and I'll put you in touch.

I will give the Email address to the owners, it is much appreciated.
Funnily enough one of my other puppy owners came to see me today with their little bitch. It was such a lovely surprise.
Rioja she is beautiful and so well behaved.
I am so proud

AT last the end of the bank holiday weekend and my dog walk is back to normal again, it is so irritating when you keep meeting walkers in funny clothes and they react so badly to the dogs some of them that in turn the dogs react not as they should and have a little wuff !
Today though I met one of my puppies up the walk, well she will be 6yrs old on Thursday, Caffrey she had a bone biopsis on her toe about 6 weeks ago but all is well and she had a good play with her brother Scrumpy, he is so funny he found a mouse hole and he bites big chunks of turf out and spits it out I have never seen another dog do that. Has anyone out there got a dog that does something a bit quirky? If so write in, come on we need more Rottweiler gossip!!

Hi Rottie, we managed to get away for the weekend...left the dogs at home with a dog sitter (my friend) but missed them like mad!  My husband says I am truely embaressing as every rottie I saw I had to stop and snog, mind you the owners didnt mind, they loved it that their dogs were getting some attention rather than people crossing the road to avoid them!

My rotts spit, if they are chewing anything you just tell them to spit it out and they do, from the front of their mouths and with force too.  Over the years I have had many different breeds of dogs and never have know another breed to do this.

Oh and the subject that I was interested in was suppliments in foods. When we got Elle we were told to add calcium, cod liver oil and garlic to her food.  Later on I was told this wasnt a good idea for pups but suppliments help the older dogs.  They all get cod liver oil and garlic added to their food still and their coats are wonderful and we dont seem to suffer fleas, that is apart from when the cats bring things home, I know its supposed to be a compliment when your cat brings you presents but I would much rather they didn't!

Speak soon

Lesley

Hi Lesley,
Supplements - How long have you got  - the girls that work for me say "would your dogs like a bit of food with their supplements?" ha ha!  That is how bad I am!
My older dogs get glucosamine & chondroitin for arthritis, they all get a codliver oil capsule every other day they all get 2 garlic pearls daily, granma (nearly 12) gets 4 Dorwest mixed vegetable tablets (for incontinence) ERM... let me think...if its warm they all get Dorwest Parsley & Watercress mix in their food.
Any sicky bouts they get bio yoghurt and Dorwest tree bark powder ( this is also good for mild cases of diarrhoa) Two of my dogs who have had leg problems get cortaflex.
I give Breeders Formula to my growing dogs, this is a new one for me but I am very impressed with the results so far.
Oh and Ginty who I am trying to get into whelp next season is given a supplement called Fit and Fertile
I am homoeopathic and treat my girls when in whelp this way and (fingers crossed) have not had any major problems.
So as you can see a bit of a supplement addict all round really!
Must go now as Martell is convinced that Ruby is coming into season and is driving her and me around the bend.
If any one out there gives their dogs any supplements I would love to know about it and why and what where the results?
Post soon, speak soon lurve rottie

Now then, just a quick word about cruciates here!
I know a lot of the larger breeds including ours are susceptible to ruptures of the cruciate ligament.
But as a boarding kennel owner i am seeing more and more little breeds and cross breeds with this problem and just to cap it all this week I have a clients whos cat is having a new cruciate ligament put in!!
What is going on??
Has anyone got a theory?
I wonder if it has anything to do with the lack of minerals and nutrients in our food (even if you feed a natural diet) the land is so intensively farmed and has been for a long time.
Must go now as my puppy is doing an impression of the ANDREX LABRADOR and had got a million feet of loo roll scattered round the house!!
She's had a good time though, bless!

Hi All,
\have just got back from taking my puppy Perry to horse jumping event, she was so good, she is very laid back but not at all frightened and I thought it would be good socialization for her.
But I have a problem, she is travel sick - does anyone have a good cure for this, I have tried all the feeding her in the car etc. It is only when the car is moving and she seems okay on straighter road but on windy roads she pukes.
I have tried half a stugeron but that didnt work
Please help!

Hi rottie
My weimaraner x GSD (another child eating breed !!!!!)used to be terribly car sick and cry too.
I put him on Valerian and skullcap to calm his nerves-it is also recommended for travel sickness-and since he has been on that he has never been sick again !!
I bought mine from animalsnaturally.com.
Hope this helps !!

Tignmolly,
Is Colin Appleyard married to Christine Appleyard, they have Rotties and is that the Goldwing connection?
Hi all out there.
My last post I put my name as rottiek, just a slip of the fingers on the keyboard.
Gawd I am full of cold, just come back from walking the dogs and because I am feeling under the weather I only took them aroung my field I get to the far corner and a GSD dog comes wandering through the hedge, I shout (admittedly not very load as my throat is VERY sore) please call your dog and the couple completely ignore me, I wasnt worried about a fight as such as I had 3 girls but one of them Ginty is 10 days into season, anyway I managed to shoo the said dog back through the hedge much to the annoyance of the cranial challenged couple.
I am going to mate Ginty next week we have been following a regime of antibiotics to try and get her to carry her babies full term so I am feeling nervous and excited all at the same time. Please keep your fingers crossed for me, I have got people who have waited 18 months for one of these puppies and I am DESPERATE to have one.
I will let you know how we get on it is usually plain sailing up to 3 weeks of the pregnancy and then last time she re-absorbed!!
Has anyone else had this problem, a lady with Newfoundlands told me she used the antibiotics and got a litter of 10 and her bitch had absorbed twice, so there is hope yet.

Well I am sat here in dreary Lancashire whilst my hubby is in Gibralter playing with the police rotties!!! It isn't fair you know.

One of the bobbies is sulking now cos after Barry boring him with tales of ours he got out his photos and showed him the pictures of Red.......he now wants a red rottie, he thinks he is stunning.

I know our Red is a throw back but a question, dobies are the same colour and you can get them in chocolate, is the chocolate in dobies a throw back that has now been accepted?

I would love another chocolate rottie and I know the chances of that are slim, but love the way that Red is accepted where as Elle is sheilded away from. I can walk with Red on his own and people approach me and chat when out with Elle people cross the road!

Hi Lesley,
Interesting question about colour. Dobermanns even come in white now!!
I am not brilliant with genetics, we once had a red rottie come in through rescue, but we all pressumed that he had some ridgeback or boxer in him.
I have never actually seen any other colour than black and tan in litters of Rotties, I mean in Boxers you get the odd white one and they are becoming more popular now, but i have never seen a black and tan boxer. Years ago we boarded a brindle labrador!!*!
If indeed your red rottie would be classed as a chocolate Lesley and it became an accepted colour then unfortunately they too would evoke the same response that all the black and tans get.
Why do some breeds come in all colours and others only in one??
I do not know?
Its the same with lots of species I have a Flemish Giant rabbit and they only come in dark grey.
Maybe we could cross them with a dalmatian and have spottie rotties LOL  ****ONLY JOKING***** Please do not try that at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We actually boarded a Rottweiler bitch with white spots!! I arent joking, we have also boarded a male Weimaraner with white spots. It is a medical condition I think it is called vertiligo if my memory serves me correctly.
Just had a thought........................CHOCOLATE ROTTWEILERS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT!! YUMMY  I just love to bite my Rotties, in a loving way of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by: Red Rotties on May 06, 2003, 07:55: AM
Well I have had a root around and found this, thanks to the doberman club of America.............

In 1899 the breed standard for Dobermans was black, it was changed in 1901 as it became apparrent that "blues" and "browns came through even with good breeding.  The Germans decided that the function was the most important feature.  There is also Fawn (known as Isabella) though seldom seen (not to be confused with Albinos)

The bit I liked best in the history of the Doberman was this............

It was the Rottweiler which the early Doberman strongly resembled, that the breed owes so much of its substance, bravery and reliable guarding ability.

Lesley

Lesley,
I boarded an Isabella Dobermann quite a numberof years ago now, they are exactly the same colour as a Weimaraner but they still have the tan markings everywhere, I have to say that he had the most atrocious skin EVER, I am also seeing a lot of chocolate Dobes with skin problems.
I have to say that I think we should stick to good old black and tan as the standard, if we occasionally get an unusual colour pop up then so be it and people like yourself will be lucky and get a unique dog.
But you know Lesley even if you get another red rottie it wont be the same as the one you have, will it?  I mean they are SO special and each one is different.
If I could only get a sky blue pink rottie with yellow dots on I would still have that rather than change my breed, dont you agree?
I have been to Doncaster today with my friend and her rottie to see a bone specialist, he was really lovely after we got over the shock of the black and white mohican hair style!! She has been lame a long time and no one can seem to get to the bottom of it, this guy thinks it may be hips or back? We are going back tomorrow for X-rays, keep your fingers crossed for us.

Hi all,
Thanks for thinking about us, what a day I have had doncaster am and pm and inbetween to my own vet with Ginty for a pre-mate test phew!!
Anyway Mr Shaw sez it is definitely her cruciate, there are now 3 different types of operations that can be done and the best one for her is where they cut some bone out and then put a metal plate in, because she is a tall girl and only 2 years old.
She will have to go to Birmingham for the operation, but at last we have a diagnosis (its what I thought all along actually) apparently the reason it was so difficult to diagnose is because unusually there is very little arthritis around the joint. (Poor girl has been lame for mostly a year!)
Will keep you all posted.
Must go now as I am pooped, I need to get my strength up for 2 long journeys to mate Ginty Saturday and Monday

Hi All,
What a day!! I got up first thing and Dimple couldnt put any weight on her front leg!!!!!!! Off I rushed to the vet (I was only there yesterday with her and was given more PLT's) We X-rayed her shoulder and she has terrible arthritis there, we have already tried Metacam and Rimadyl and now the PLT's arent working, I was feeling very upset and stressed the vet injected her with a massive pain killer and we have brought her home.
About an hour or so ago she went out to do the biz and she seemed much better but she still is not very bright eyed. It makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach when my dogs are ill.
Anyway we have now got some new tablets (didnt ask what they cost) called ZUBRIN has anyone heard of them or used them?
If so let me know please, will give you an up date over the weekend.

Hi Lesley and gail,
Dimple is not that much better on these new fandangled tablets actually.
But I must give them at least a week to see if they are going to work.
I am going to take her for acupuncture, my vet does it and we have had good results in the past, she is chronically lame still and it upsetting me to see her hobble around especially when I have her mother here who is 12 tomorrow and she is as sound as a pound!!
Well Ginty that is another question you see last timw she was pregnant we had a scan at 3 weeks and there were 5 babies and then she had none, she absorbed them so I dont really know when I will be 100% sure probably in 9 weeks time when she has them.
I have 7 puppies ordered from people who have had one of my dogs before who have still got one and want another.......and of course I WANT ONE!!!!
Just going to have boarders out, see ya all soon.

You should post under the General section on how much should I pay for a stud dog.   That is someone breeding their rottie.  What I like with this breeding that you have just done is that your pups are pre ordered and not a mating just cos.  Fingers crossed that all goes ok for Ginty

Thanks for that Lesley, your comments are very much appreciated, really!
It is very early as I could not sleep I have a sore neck, I think it is the stress of my beloved Dimple, her leg is so sore she doesnt come to bed now I think the stairs are too much for her, I am crying my eyes out typing this ( which is totally unproductive and stupid I know) I am an emotional wreck when my dogs arent right!
I am going to ring the vets first thing I have decided, she has to be made comfortable - whatever!
Seeing as I cannot sleep I am going to have a little rant here! (if I may?)
I have posted on a Rottweiler chat line about breeding and the problems associated with that and unfortunately a goodly amount of the pet  owning public have a VERY poor view of "breeders"
So I would like to say something in my defence - I hate calling myself a "breeder" I have had 9 litters of puppies in 20 years of owning Rotts, I only breed when I want a puppy for myself, I choose my stud dog VERY careful, looking at the compatability of pedigrees, soundness in the lineage is also important, making sure hips have been X-rayed and scored and most importantly temperament, I have usually known the dog,its sire and its progeny and liked them all.
I say temperament is the most important because although I do show (very lightly due to work commitments) I am realistic and 9 out of 10 pups are purely pets and I have no problem with that what so ever  IN FACT, generally I do not like my pups to go to "show" homes as show people CAN be very shallow and if the dog doesnt win it is then re-homed - a big NO NO as far as I am concerned.
I have made a few errors of judgement in my 20 years, one puppy came back to me after only being in its new home a few weeks as the husband was jealous of the attention the wife gave the dog (did she get rid of the wrong companion there, or what?) I have had 2 puppies back because of marriage split ups and one 7 year old male who's owners wife had died and he was going to live abroad, Oscar stayed with me until he died.
I do the best to my ability, its the only way I can do anything, these dogs are MY responsibility until they die, I will take them back at ANYTIME during their lives, I do not sell to people who want a dog to live outside or to people I do not like FOR WHATEVER REASON. I stay in contact ALL the dogs life by way of a birthday card and a Christmas card and I am always here at the end of the phone, I have made some great friends over the years. I know there are a lot of "bad" breeders out there but if us "good" breeders stopped, where would all the prospective puppy owners who do their homework, are prepared to wait and want a dog as a companion for the rest of its life, where do they go to get a puppy?
I'm sure I have missed tons out but hey! There's always another day, another post

Hopefully Ginty is pregnant she is acting VERY precious.
Are all the other Rotts out there well?
I am going to pick up a stray who has done his 9 days in the kennels and his time is up so off I go to get him tomorrow, he is about 18 months old and a sweetie.
Will let you know how he gets on.

HI all,#
Quick update -  The rott I picked up has found a nice new home as soon as I saw him I knew he would be no bother a real sweetie we called him George.  Sorry if I dont put many commas etc but I type as this stuff just comes into my head and cannot be bothered with all the little stuff.
Dimple is now coming up to bed and is off all her medication (for the minute) I cannot begin to tell you how much better that makes me feel.
I have dowsed Ginty and she IS pregnant, but the crucial bit is between 3 and 4 weeks.
I learnt about dowsing on the healing weekend I recently went to it was fascinating. Perry is in a bit of a chewing stage, the other night when I came off the computer she had done an andrex puppy job with the toilet roll all the way from the bathroom through to the kitchen Bless!**

hi rotti
i have a dobe and he can clear a field in 2mins, people see him and take there dogs and go, well yesterday over the forest, sam runs and runs and because everyone expects dogs to come out from anywhere i realy dont have to worry with sam, he is very good with other dogs,as we was coming to a clearing there standing in front was a rotti, they looked at each other slowly walked towards each other had a sniff and started to charge about as if best of friends, they looked like a force to be reckoned with, the rotti was so friendly the owner said he has problems with other people, as they automaticly assume the rotti will attack, but as he said if there was any chance of that he would have him on a lead and muzzle

Hi Lolly,
Thats a lovely story.
Now I know I am biased but I have to say my Rotts are the most sociable animals in the universe!! Really!!
I dont know whether its because they live here in a pack, I know males can be a little dominant but I see many other breeds worse for dog to dog aggression than the good old Rottweiler.

Howdy All!!!  I am a total rottenmauler [affectionate term] lover too!!!  I have 3 humongous behemoths!  They are Anastasia...she came from breeder's private stock and we named her Anastasia as a play on anestesia, because she was just the medicine we needed.  We found out later that the lady who we got her from is also an anestesiologist!  She is 8 years old now and just a fat old lazy bitch who loves to play in the water hose!  Her mother lives with our very good friend and is now a ripe old age of 15 years old!  Her name is Holly, and she has gone so blonde that her nose is actually WHITE!!!   My other 2 babies are Cerberus and Bombadier, the alpha and the runt, respectively, and are litter mates from her last litter!  They are the best dogs in the world!!!  So laid back and sweet!  If anyone want's to chat more my e:mail is Superwrider@aol.com!

WOW  Love the piccy what a gorgeous Black and Tan.
Hevent been on for an absolute AGE..... Dimple is doing REALLY well and can you believe my puppy is 6 months old already. I have only had her at the ringcraft training twice and I have entered her at a show in a month so i had better get my finger out.
Piper as i have named her is really gorgeous and SO naughty!!!!!!!!!
The rest are doing fine too, Perry is over a year old and as yet has not come into season. It is so wet and mild we are knee deep in mud here and it is hard work keeping them clean. The rescue was very busy over the Xmas period but has queitened down a bit now.
I went to Manchester Champ Show last Friday for a look, the judge was SO slow she started at 10am and did not finish until 6.45pm too late for the best of breed to go into the working group what a shame!!
I was astounded at the poor fronts, it is only 15 months since my last show and the fronts REALLY have deteriorated in that short space of time.
Amyway I bet you are all wishing I would stop going on, so any Rott news come on get posting

Hi there, it isnt a clear pic but he is chocolate and lemon!

I cant wait for Crufts just to see what is in the ring this year, I was really disappointed last year.  There must have only been 3 or 4 dogs that I would have brought home with me.  Lets hope we see some with some clear markings on them, I dont want a black dog!

Title: Kind & Gentle bears AKA Rottweilers
Post by: rottie40 on January 19, 2004, 11:34: PM
Now then Lesley,
Have you saved up loads of money for Crufts??
I have entered one dog and it has cost £42.50 altogether I think that is extortionate, dont you?
There was 241 dogs entered at Manchester
Unfortunately I think Crufts is one of the worst Champ shows to go to with the poorest quality because anyone who has qualified a dog, goes whether that dog is in peak condition or not and a lot of the dogs that have qualified as pups have not really reached their potential but the owners take them anyway because of the thrill of exhibiting at Crufts.
Also too I think it is unfair that the puppies cannot leave until 4pm by the time they get home they are exhausted being on "display" all day.
Oh dear i sound like a bit of a grouch, dont I ?
I love it really but it is VERY commercial these days with lots of stall selling thing totally unrelated to dogs, its still dog shopping heaven though, get saving those pennies...... How many Rotts have you got? Do you show any of them, or are you sane!! Hahaha!

Title: Kind & Gentle bears AKA Rottweilers
Post by: Red Rotties on January 19, 2004, 11:56: PM
 Im one of the sane ones. I don't need to show mine cos they are the most beautiful around in my eyes!   Had 3 rotties and lost one last Christmas, have also got a neo cross and for my sins a english mastiff pup. Love my rotts and eventually will get another but I think I may wait until some of the top lines change. You know the saying as you learn more the better you do well I suppose that is me with the rotts, didnt know a lot when I came into the breed but learning more every day and know  what I am looking for. And although hubby says no more dogs when I see it it will be coming home with me regardless!

I have been saving up this year and not taking hubby with me, he cramped my shopping style last year, but will have to be a bit careful as I have also booked in to a Gwen Fisher demo in March too!

    Hi,

before i had my American Bulldogs i had Rotties. My first Rottie had been abused by the man who owned her, he kicked her in the face, shattering her jaw, he had beaten her, and fractured her legs!!! I will never forgive him for what he did to her! She was such a fantastic dog, and when i had my son she fell in love with him as soon as she laid eyes on him! She would always lie as close as she could to him, and was in her element when he would stroke her or rub his feet in her fur. I miss her so much! I cant fault her! I could take her anywhere, she loved going in the car, she loved sun bathing and most of all she loved me and my son!
I hate all the attitude that people give you when you own Rotties! I was told that you cant have Rotties with kids, what a load of COBBLERS!!

Anyway sorry for rambling on, i just love Rotties!

When i was a child i had a bad experience with a rottie. I was on my way to school with my mum when this huge rottie appeared and started growling at us we calmly crossed over the road and continued walking the next thing we knew this dog came running over and bit my mum on her leg She was shouting at it to go away then a man appeared and whacked it with a broom. My mum had to have stiches and after that i was terrified of rotties i wouldnt even walk on the same side of the road as one. Until about 5 years ago i went to a friends aunties and she had this huge. slightly over weight rottie named tara. She was the softest most cuddly and loveable dog id ever seen. I think she made me realise that they're not all aggresive maneaters as portrayed by people and the media and i thankfully i can actually go near them without being terrified. Just thought i'd share that with you!

Hiya chuckie bids,
ozzy_iv ramble all you like we love it!! Will you get another? Have you got a dog at the minute.  Its a glorious day here in Yorkshire and i have been out in the sun this afternoon with my lot when i see them running across the fields together it makes me want to cry i am so happy ( how sad does that make me!!)
Anna thats a lovely post, its so nice to hear from people who have been turned around like that, what about your mum though?> Do you think she will ever get over it??  You should take her to meet the Rott you made friends with and show her they arent all like the one that bit her.
I went to see one of my puppies yesterday, she is so happy and content and the owners worship her, i get so much pleasure out of seeing how these gorgeous creatures enhance peoples lives i have met so many friends and stay in touch with all my puppy owners.
My house is a bit mad at the moment as i have 3 under the age of 2 and they are a big trio of fun and games
Bye for now, must go and snog the lips off my Rotts!!!!!!!!

  Hi Guys!

yes i would definately have another Rottie because i love them to pieces and so does my 2 year old son!! They are fantastic dogs! If you get chance email me some pics of your babies i woould love to see them! At the moment i have 5 dogs - Phoenix is a Rottie X, she is 2 years old. Then my 4 American Bulldogs are - Oz who is 15 months old, Taya who is 10 months old, and Maximus and Sasha ( brother and sister ) who are 5 months old.
I think that when my son is older he will want a Rottie anyway. Atleast i know he will never grow up with an attitude problem towards big dogs and will never be scared of them

Dimple is absolutely GREAT!!! No lamenes and really doing well. I would not have her x-rayed again just to see waht happened to the cancer but as far as I am concerned it is most definitely in remission.
Ginty had 9 beautiful babies, I kept a bitch we called her Piper after the champagne she is gorgeous VERY naughty.
I am very sad to report that Asti my oldest girl and granma to all died last year she was nearly 12 I still miss her she was the sweetest dog in the world.

My mob are really good thaks for asking Ozzi.
Although yesterday i got some really sad news, the sister of my 2 oldest Rotts died with bone cancer they will be 10 this June.
I am just digging out a card to send to her owner as she is distraught.
I cried a lot yesterday and I havent seen her since she was about 2 years old. They are SO precious as I get older I am affected even worse by their deaths. I am totally convinced that each time one of my sweet, tender, gentle bears leaves me they take a little piece of me with them.
What a softy I am I am welling up just typing this.
Hope everyone else out there is enjoying their Rotts to the limit, because as sure as anything they do not live long enough!!!
Much Love

Hi,I am owned by two big bouncy Rotty's.Also by a GSD and a Bullmastiff.I have Bear whom was 7 on the 11th Jan and Truffle who will be 3 on 28th April.Bear is exactly like his name,a great big cuddly lump.He came to us in 2000 from a family where the kids had been allowed to ride on his back.As a result he has cervical damage to the discs in his neck which has resulted in him having semi paralasis in his front feet and a very distinct bunny hop gait.He was also diagnosed with X chromasome muscular dystrophy. The vet he used to attend told me to bring him back when he coud'nt walk any more(in about 6 months)and he would be pts. That was almost four years ago.He still bunny hops, but can now walk with the rest of the gang and he has nails on his front feet, where he used to take them down to the quick before.Truffle is a real sweetie. She is very delicate when you see her beside Bear, but is absolutely beautiful.Bear loves everyone and everything, and his sole ambition in life is to be fussed by all the people he comes into contact with.I love my Rotties with a passion, and can't envision my life without one in it.I'm looking forward to crufts this year,as I had an Asthma attack last year and could'nt go.But I'm determined to get there this year. :D  :D  :D

I came across dog chat couple of months ago and have looked in a few times. Absolutley overjoyed to find Rottie fans I have a rottie x alsation who I have owned for six years and just got a new 2 Year old Rottie boy about a month ago. I think it is time this breed is less misunderstood to the general public but am slightly concerned about all the breeding going on.

Hi Mowglie,
Wow GSD X Rott have known quite e few they make FANTASTIC dogs they always seem to get the best characteristics of both breeds.
So you now have a 2 year old male, what is his name and where did you get him from? Does he got on ok with your other dog?
I agree about the breeding although i have bred a few litters myself there is a lot of thoughtless breeding going on. I am looking for a stud dog at the moment as i have 6 or 7 orders from owners who already have one of my pups desperate for another. It takes me 18 months to get over having a litter if you do it properly it is such hard work!! But remember if there werent ANY breeders we wouldnt have our beloved Rotts would we??
Just be careful and go to a reputable breeder thats what I say
Come on all you black and tan enthusiasts get typing and posting

I totally agree with Rottie x GSD. have known two others as well as my own. have been wondering whether to start new breed with it but would take years and years and years of hard work. the ones I have all seen take after the rottie, ie black and tan slightly lighter build than rottie and they have their tail (never stops wagging) great temperments and no health problems. My new boy is getting on fine with my old one, the old one is still boss but not nasty. Only problem is old one is not as playful as he used to be which is shame.
My new one was bit of handful when I got him no obedience training except sit and paw if that counts but very well house trained thank goodness!!

Sorry forgot to say I got him through the paper not a breeder, would have loved a puppy with papers etc but as I only enter fun shows I thought would get older dog who needs a home. His name is Louie and he still has his tail. He is one of the large size ones and has lovely colouring.

Hi,
Your boys sound lovely, my boys are 10 and 7 and are not a bit of bother I just love the boys they are such big softies my older one is quite small but the younger one Scrumpy is really big with the most fantastic bone he has legs like tree trunks!! His favourite thing is to go swimming in the sea but once he is in I cant get him out, he has a sore paw at the moment and so the sea water is doing it a lot of good.
I have a third boy but unfortunately he does not get along with my other dogs yet, we got him back 3 months ago as his owner had died and he has not had a great deal of socialization with other dogs, when he first came back he wouldnt get on with anything but now he gets on with all the girls it is just taking the plunge with the boys
Anyway I have rambled on enough fo one night, I must go and have the boarding dogs out

Hi, Just been on holiday for a few days to England, what lovely weather they have compared to up here!! I have found my new one is moulting heavily and thought it was just him then noticed my old one who barely sheds normally is really quite bad this year. perhaps it is the climate change? or maybe i'm getting house proud in my old age....no thats impossible with my new one he is like beethoven with his slobbers.

Bloomin 'eck you must have been having some cold weather up in Scotland I maybe dont live far enough south either?
My old girl has got colitis bless her, I give her Dorwest Herb Tree Bark Powder it is really great.
Her son has hurt his back so he is on the Arnica (laid at my feet as I type chewing on a hide chew stick)
Have been trying to have a general tidy round outside and the dogs have been getting very enthusiastic about it one ran off with the dustbin lid, another decided to dig up big clods of turf and run around the garden being chased by the others (rotts just LOVE being chased!!) and Ruby kept finding bit of straw and tape and allsorts bringing them to me and wanting me to throw them for her Oh the joys of gardening with 9 dogs helping you

Hi, my new one was grumpy about being touched too, would lie on sofa and growl and couldn't touch his collar. After a closer examination found the collar was too tight!! He's fine now though, just took a few days for him to trust us. he growled at the vet when she looked at him though, the monster
Was wondering if you could give me advice on treats ie bones etc. I have given my Rott x rawhide bones for years until I read about how they are not safe etc, and have read that gumabones or nylabones are safe. I can't find them anywhere though, looked in pet shops, pet stalls at markets etc and nobody has heard of them.

Title: Kind & Gentle bears AKA Rottweilers
Post by: rottie40 on August 04, 2004, 08:01: PM
Nylabones are best, gumabones last mine until boxing day when they get them for Xmas but the nylabones last about 6 months and they love them.
I also get the smoked filled bones in a really big size ( the bigger the better really) I am surprised you cannot find the nylabones anywhere, do you have a Pets at Home store?? Or go to your local pet shop and ask if they will order them for you ( you really need the WOLF size) a wholesaler named Batleys does them!   Hope you find them, there is also a cheaper version in a ring and a pull and they come in plain and chocolate flavour they are reaaly good too.
There is also a Gallileo bone which is made from the same substance and lasts ages too. I think I must be an expert in Rott toys my dogs have tons.
Another good idea would be to buy the magazine Dogs Today and e-mail them and I bet they will know someone who does them mail order the Dogs Today team are VERY VERY VERY helpful
Hope all this helps let me know how you get on!

Thanks for that, there is a pets at home store recently opened in Aberdeen it is about an hours drive but I will try there coz people say its really good. I get dogs today magazine I think it is really good and am going to subscribe to it, it will save me trying to remember to buy it every month!
I feel sorry for my oldest Levi coz he has loads of toys and looks after them really well, he mouths them but does not chew them up, then if a friend takes their dog over or we look after a dog for a holiday then they chew his toys up, its usually the collie, the lurcher or the springer that are the culprits!

Most of mine chew toys and need really indestructable ones. One of my girls though loves a teddy or stuffed animal and carries it around like its her baby, if one of the others get it though I am afraid they chew it and pull the stuffing out.
Its been far too hot for Rotts today so I am just going out into the woods for a jaunt with my mob

I lost my youngest Rott to heat exhaustion at 7am on Saturday morning. The vet worked on her for five and a half hours, but was unable to save her.Devastated is so far short of how I feel right now,I can't tell you.I feel like my heart has been ripped out of my chest, and has taken my soul with it.Love them with a passion while they are here, because God takes them far too soon. All the Rottie owners will know how I'm feeling at the moment. She was cremated yesterday, and will be coming home on Friday. We are having a memorial service for her at her favourite spot on her favourite walk, where I will say a wee prayer for her and float some candles and flowers down the river in her memory. All her doggy(and human)friends will be there, and my friend who is a deacon will say prayers for her,to give thanks for her being entrusted to me for her time on earth.I have made a donation to Rottweiler Rescue in her name,to try and help some of the less fortunate Rotts out there. Also I will be donating a trophy to the Scottish Rottweiler Club in her memory.

:D Hi all not posted on here for ages i have just been reading all the postings it seem so long ago.
Well apart from working and touring on our bike i have really not been up to much didn't go to crufts  Wanted to but had to save money for the kennel fees while we where on holiday. I only have have two dogs now molly and maverick we lost tig in a not very nice way and i still miss her like mad.
I called in to see Lesley (Red Rotties) the other day and could not believe how well all her dogs are looking they are all great couldn't get over the size of Barney her mastiff he is enormous but he is a big gentle giant lots of kisses it was great.
Maverick will be 6yrs in Dec he is rottie x lab and sometimes can be a grumpy old man :x and molly she is rottie will be 4yrs old in Dec molly is a cow and is a spoilt daddys girl she torments mav and wants all the fuss first.
So what have you all been up to anything good? hope to hear from you soon.
Gail and the gang

I have one rottie at the moment, 10 month old named Indy. Im soon to grt another and im thinking of names. I love to show my rottie and i can't wait to start showing my new one.
I just love rotties as they are so big and huggable. i can't believe some people think of them as a vicious animal. they are some of the softest dogs i have encountered in my life time.
