Title: Advanced Driving Course? Post by: Jet on February 27, 2006, 05:46: PM Has anyone done an advanced driving course please and is able to recommend one?
I find my OH's driving quite scary (each journey is not about getting safely from A to B, but about getting there before everybody else, screaming along A roads for the 'enjoyment' and 'challenge' whilst I'm pasted to the passenger seat, eyes glued to the road, too terrified to look at the scenery that's flashing past  ). Due to this, I end up doing the bulk of the driving at my own insistence but it would be nice to be able to have a break now and again. Nagging and shrieking with terror doesn't seem to work, so I've had the brain wave of possibly booking us both onto an advanced driving course. But having looked at them on the internet, there seem to be so many different ones about and one of them I looked at offered to "improve your skills on the track and on the roads". Skills on the track is the last thing I want!! So, has anyone done a course that they can recommend please? Title: Advanced Driving Course? have you tried contacting the AA Jet? Title: Advanced Driving Course? Post by: Jet on February 28, 2006, 06:20: PM I've looked at their website and they do one that teaches you how to drive safely at night and on the motorway (sounds a bit basic?) and they also give the details of the Institue of Advanced Motorists who also do one.
The RAC does one too and there are lots of private companies / driving schools that do them as well. There's so many about, I just wondered if anyone else had done one and had any experience to pass on good or bad, and which one they did? :D Title: Advanced Driving Course? Post by: k9media on February 28, 2006, 10:05: PM I know someone who did an advanced course but she was a really good driver in the first place and just wanted to get even better for professional reasons. I think (think!) the advanced driving course is for people who are already very good drivers but, for instance, when people are found guilty of dangerous driving or they cause an accident through careless driving, they are often sent on a more basic or remidial driving course to re-learn the very basics of driving. Don't know if that's any use to you. I often wonder if I'd actually pass my driving test now - I have probably picked up loads of bad habits over the years that would make me fail.
