Title: skin prob Post by: poppylover on January 13, 2007, 12:42: PM My boy bulldog has red patches like exema on his white bits, they dont seem to bother him although he does itch them sometimes, the vet did not know what it was gave antibiotics and told me to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse then we could do a skin scrape but that prob would not be conclusive my girl is ok though and she hasd white on her to? Skin scrape or not? anyone got experience of this?

Title: Re: skin prob Post by: smokeybear on January 15, 2007, 12:43: PM Many white dogs have skin problems, have you considered supplementing the diet with Fish Body Oil (not Cod Liver Oil)?
This contains DHA/EPA vital Omega 3s for skin health and immunity. You need to get a good quality one (Healthspan is excellent) which denotes the quantity of DHA and EPA, rather than the supermarket brands. Also you can give Evening Primrose Oil which also helps skin conditions. If you give FBO you must also supplement with Vitamin E (preferably natural source). FBO up to 1000mg per day and Vitamin E between 200 - 400 iu per day. Title: Re: skin prob Post by: smokeybear on January 15, 2007, 01:30: PM I would be concerned that my vet was administering antibiotics without knowing what the problem is. Of course if the scratching was really bad then ABs would be required to treat any infection secondary to the underlying cause.
If you wish to go down the homeoepathic route then I would suggest consulting a homeopathic vet for a consultation so that a complete history can be acquired. Skin scrapes can be very useful in diagnosing allergies etc as can blood tests. If the cause is environmental or food than often it can be eliminated or mitigated. Good luck Title: Re: skin prob Post by: TWS on January 15, 2007, 03:24: PM Again i would ask what age is he and where the red bits are are they localised or all over did they start in one place.
If your girl does not have it do they do anything different from each other different places to walk different foods? Title: Re: skin prob Post by: Crazy Stacey on January 17, 2007, 12:22: PM My boxer (he is white) had a prob like your dog he was so itchy (bless him) so We took him to the vets it turned out to be Dermatitis so he got put on some antibiotics.
If this is your bulldogs prob it will come and go from time to time. Title: Re: skin prob Post by: Mad Max on January 19, 2007, 08:32: PM Hi my last boxer had a problem that sounds similar, The vet never found out what his was...He had skin scrappings and numerous tablets, Then he got a sist on his paw so the vet gave him tablets for that and BINGO the skin problem cleared up. The vet couldnt understand it but every time it flaired up they tabs worked. He was brindle and if the scabby bits never got sorted it went bald :(
Hope you get to the bottom off this :P Title: Re: skin prob Post by: Kerriebaby on January 19, 2007, 08:58: PM what do you feed him?
