2  The DogChat.co.uk Discussion Forum / New Dog Owners / Labradors and electric cables... not a good combination on: September 23, 2005, 12:29: PM
Not really as your dog could easily knock the chairs out the way, go round them, wiggle through them etc depending on the type of chair. If the dog is in a secure room when unsupervised then the dog would not be able to chew them behind your back! Maybe the kitchen has a safer atmosphere for your dog?
Only other suggestion I could make is perhaps you can get something to cover the cables such as hard plastic tubes to hold a number of cables at a time. I know the pup could still chew this but you could then put a deterrant on the plastic tube and at least if the deterrant did not work then your pup would still be safe.
 Very Happy

Does anyone on this site have basenjis? I don't have one but it is an interesting breed and was just wondering.....

Of course if your lab actually bit the cable in half that would probably be a good deterrant as it would not do it again!! Only joking, is there no way you can keep the dog away from the cables for example when supervised it can be around them and you can reprimand it if it tries to chew and when unsupervised is there a room that is cable free for your dog to be in for its on safety.

Ok, I watched the one with the pommy that bit everyone. I'm sorry but I think she should have been put down - the owner that is, she was absolutely unreal!

I completly agree you would be better with an older dog that has already been through its chewing and training  Very Happy  As for breeds well nearly any dog would be fine with children and birds if properly socialised. However I would avoid terrier types and hunting dogs just in case and veer towards the working dog group as they are very trainable and don't have the basic instinct  to chase and kill - remember many terriers were bred as ratters and the toy groups can be uncertain in temperment sometimes.

I think everything that needs to be said has been said but just want to add, Lisa LQ what lovely pics, that is one of the most un-deprived dogs I have ever seen (next to mine Smile ) and I wish all dogs have the chance of a home like that where thay are loved for what they are and not what they can produce!
10  The DogChat.co.uk Discussion Forum / Topical / overweight dogs offered place in fit camp on: September 09, 2005, 02:32: PM
It is horrible. My newest rott was incrediably obese when I got him and as a result he was very shaky on back legs, could not walk more than a few steps at a time and spent most of his time lying down and panting.  Crying or Very sad
He is all better now though and runs and jumps like a dog should!
It is a great shame that people do not realise that overfeeding and lack of excercise is just as cruel as starving a dog. Evil or Very Mad

"Perhaps you should ask you're mum if she'd feel the same if it was her teenage son's 'needs' she was considering"
Laughing Thought that was funny! Laughing

Seriously though I would get him neutered, both mine are and they are definately still manly enough without the side effects of unwanted puppies, roaming, pi**ing in friends houses etc!
If you do decide not to for some reason? , he will survive just fine without "relieving his needs".

If you have tried everything else then perhaps a basket muzzle for a short time to give it a chance to heal? I would convince your owner to take you back to the vet first though and see if they have any ideas to help. They prob won't charge you for it or it may be small amount as it is connected to what they have already done.
By the way how do you manage to type so nicely with your paw in a bandage? Laughing
