Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. Well my husband came out against the idea mainly because we live on 6acres and altho we have a nice fenced back garden he often takes our dog out walking around with him or to the mailbox etc off leash. Of course with a beagle he could not do that so he is not for getting one. I am going to meet a spanielX thru a Rescue tomorrw. I know they can have some issues with ear infections but will get info from foster person re this particular dog's health, we are looking at mature doggies. Thanks again Smile

there is only 2 probs with beagles.... you MUST walk them at lest 2 times a day or they will become so distructeve its not even funny. and also they are born and bred to be hunters i am not kidding. they will follow any possible scent if u want a good dog that is very low matenices i would go for an lundhund or an english or french bull dog the french is probally a better choice cause they are smaller and have a longer nose then the english bull dog and they are nice and calm

I have a Shepherd and seeking a nice little friend for him (and for me to cuddle and love), he is epileptic so I am limited to breeds that are less likely to be reactive toward him. I am not really keen (no offence) on little dogs tht need professional grooming as we are retired and its another expense. Having looked into small breeds that might fit the bill and considering that beagle rescue is full of beagles for adoption I have decided on a beagle. Now when I first looked into them I learned how they follow their nose and also going to be completely different to my dog for obedience Rolling Eyes but I also find them appealing and I do have a fenced yard plus would be adopting a mature dog. Any advice or encouragement welcomed  Smile
