New poll : do you take your dogs on holiday with you? If so, how does it affect your holiday? If not, what provisions do you make for them?

I think the dogs take me as I spend all my holidays at dog related events. Mind you now that Una is 13 she stays at home with a neighbour walking and feeding her. Her hearing is all but gone and her eye sight deteriorating so I think she is happier in familiar surroundings, usually the couch Anne

Sam, my beautiful Whippet ALWAYS goes on holiday with us. Unless, it's overseas in which case, I only cope with 2 nights away (so does he). My Mother lives just around the corner from us, and he used to live there with me - so she takes care of Sam for me in those cases. (Once in 6yrs)

The only real problem we have found is when we mention Katies breed.
despite the fact she is a registered PAT dog, has various awards for obiedience etc as soon as they hear the word Rottie it goes quiet on the other end of the phone. Not all the time mind you but it happens more often than it doesnt. The dog they want to worry about is Ryker.. his slobber gets everywhere and boxer fur is a get to hoover up.
We have however found some great Rott friendly places including a lovely place in the Dales where we are going this year.

Wouldn't dream of going without the boys.We even take the ferret! My 2 dogs are (almost)13 and (almost)2.The ferret will be 5 years old August 31st. El(my oldest)loves it on the beach, even though his eyes and ears are not as good as they were. Home is where you park your Camper I suppose. We can't even open the door without him diving in and settling down! 8)but we can't leave him behind when we go for a walk

My last "holiday" 7 years ago wasn't even technically a holiday, it was visiting family No beach or cocktails in the sun....

Oh yes; Proper holidays, I had forgotten what they were. My last one was in 1982 when I went to Austria. Now they consist of a few days away visiting my friend at her horse farm with 2 of the 3 dogs. Bjorn stays home with Gypsy and the cats.

We went on our first holiday this year with the dogs, and it was lovely... For those of you on a tight budget check this out.... http://www.cornwall-online.co.uk/break-away-eden-holidays/Welcome.htmlThis was where we went last year and the dogs are welcome and the van we stayed in 'Eden lodge' was plenty big enough for me,hubby 3 kids and 2 dogs and therewas room for one more had we wanted it !! We booked it for the last week in May and it was only £148,we ate and cooked as we would at home (cos we're skint !!!) and we went to a wonderful dog friendly beach every day (where I saw Sky's double ,Lisa ),it was a peaceful relaxing holiday and there is even a dog friendly, food serving pub 3/4 of a mile away !!! Who could ask for anything more !!!

Yes we take our dogs on holiday every year to Norfolk. We have never been shunned because of our breed of dog and we take 5 of them every year. We have been made to feel welcome at all times even at the pub no problems at all.[Mind you i may have the so called devil dogs but all mine want to do is get as much fuss as they can].
