Hi i should be collecting my puppy around the 7th November, and i don't quiet know what to do about the traveling situation as i am collecting him from Durham and i live in London. I am finding out if i can get the train with my new pup and if i can it will mean between 2 1/2hrs to 3hrs journey can a puppy hold on and not go to the toilet for that long? I am going to ask the breeder not to feed him anything for quiet a few hrs before i pick him up to minimise any chance of an acident. Has anyone else got any tips on transporting pups and avoiding toilet accidents?

Thanks  Very Happy

I think it's quite possible that a pup won't be able to hold it that long Sad

Can you not break up the journey ?

If you cant break it up, which would be my choice - I suppose you could always put puppy pads in the crate with him, if you're crating him.
Not saying that's the best idea though, I'd personally try and break up the journey.

Laughing   I think it's PROBABLE that a pup won't be able to hold it that long!

If you can't break the journey, you might[/] get some advice from the rail company (very faint chance  Sad ).  Back in the days of all-British-Rail, they had some pretty good people - but prepare to be told the pup has to go in the guard's van (or whatever they call it now)  Sad

thanks ok i'll see what i can do, i would have driven if it was nearer but i went by coach last time and it was 7hrs so that put me off i don't think it would be fair to make the pup have such a long journey on his 1st day with me (i would stop but it's still long) i'll see if i can do the puppy pads and i'll find out the rules from the train thanks for your help  Very Happy

Exactly. I mean, look at what happens to me! Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

Perhaps you could get off the train in the middle stops, and let the puppy relieve himself then. However, you (and he)'d have to be pretty quick to get back on board again.

We picked up our two pups last week by car. We had a cardboard box with a couple of blankets. Well... one of the pups got sick so we got everything (poop, wee, sick - sorry to be gross!) and had to stop within 10 minutes!

Fortunately we had brought paper towel and wet wipes. I don't think your pup is going to hold at all and depriving them of food at that age is probably not a good idea too...

All pups are different but if they were not allowed to get outside and lived in an enclosed ''pen'' like ours (at breeders) then it's a schock to their little system I think. (I am no expert, just my opinion!)
