I am so frustrated.  I have two four year old dachshunds and they have been crate trained since they were puppies.  I crate them during the day while I am at work.  Some people think it's cruel, but it is actually safer because dachshunds have such problem-prone backs, it is easy for them to get injured and therefore, a comfy crate keeps them from making any daring jumps that may send them to the emergency room.
Anyway, for the past two weeks I have come home to a crate full of NUMBER TWO and the two dogs are covered in it.  I have thrown away blankets and towels almost everyday and I am at my wit's end.  Is there anyone who knows what type of phase this may be or what I can do to change it.  I am confused and desperate. Sad

If this is the first time this has happened in 4 years I would be concerned that there was an underlying medical problem.

your in luck i know what your problem is there are 2 reasons why this is happing. you shouldn't have them in a crate in the first place they get nervous. what you do is you put them in your laundry room with a baby gate. so they can run around. and it is most definaly not a "medical" promblem. There tired of being in there crate every single day. and sounds to me like your paraind. as long as there isn't anything to "jump" down or on you have no problem. i had this same thing happen to me. and one i tried the laundry room it worked.

Dogmaster,

What qualifications do you have to say that this definally is not a medical problem?  Are you a vet?

Whenever a dog has a sudden change in behaviour, and this IS a sudden change in behaviour, the dog should be taken to a vet for a check up.   Every trainer or behaviourist will tell you that but you seem to think differently.

Please remind me not to visit vets in America - so far we seem to be getting the opinion that they don't provide care (parvo thread), but leave extremely ill dogs to look after themselves and now we have one that thinks a dog who has been quite happy with its lifestyle so far and starts with the runs has suddenly become bored after four years so it can't be medical.

The site seems to be a childrens' playground at the moment and a very dangerous one at that!

A trip to the vets is needed if only to rule it out. Prehaps somebody could let your dogs out in the garden for 20 mins or so half way through your working day so its not too long for them to hold on. That way you will know they have had the chance to go to the tiolet before you go to work and half way through.

I've only just noticed this one!!  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

I love the last bit!!  Someone who clearly has no idea at all what they are talking about, telling everyone else that they don't know what they are talking about!!! Laughing  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

The "bro" must be one hell of an amazing vet being able to give a diagnosis without even seeing the dog!       Laughing  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

What is 'paraind' by the way?
