Hi I was wondering if someone could give me some advise, we have a 5 month old black Lab and he is amazing we got him on the 12th October and used puppy pads initially and then moved them outside.  He has regular walks morning lunch and after dinner.  When I come down in the morning there is very rarely a wee or pooh.  But if Nath and I are in the house he will just pee in the kitchen, we just dont get it. We can go out leave him for upto 4 hours and he does not go until we get home and let him out.

Many Thanks

Well he is probably asleep all night and doesn't need to pee. Same when you go out, he probably rests and knows that when you come in you will let him out.

Did you initially teach him to pee in the kitchen on the puppy pads? That could explain why he thinks that is the toilet or perhaps he has tried to tell you that he needs out but you have missed the signs or it got lost in translation.

You just need to take him to the garden at regular intervals and at times when he is likely to need to go like after eating and on waking.

I think animal testing is a terrible idea. They get all nervous and then they give the wrong answers.

Is he going near to the back door? It could be that you are missing his signals that tell you he wants to go.

If that is the case, is it possible to keep him in the living room with you so that you can watch him more closely and learn what those signal are?

Thanks, I think your right we live in a town house so if we are in the living room, he just pops in and out as he pleases, a lot of the time he is just on the landing chewing a toy but then I go downstairs and find a pee and yes thats where we used to have the puppy pads.

Thanks again

Emma
