Sorry Lassie. What I meant was, there are lots of Collies needing homes, and there are a few in rescue.

I think it is madness you breeding him..sorry..I have to agree with Sarabe

ISarabe in reply to your questions

Yes yes and yes, any creature that I was responsible for it exntirely my sresponsibility whatsoever, my current 2 dogs are extremely placid and settled with each other after only a matter of days.

Stride has already won 1st prize for Obedience in the one competition hes entered (Honey won third waggiest tail but thats not the point lol)

on a final note I cannot express enough that if Stride bred I would keep in contact with owners consistently throughout thier lives. Its not right nor fair to simply sell a living being off.

Sadly I don't think it is essbee. Sad

Alan, why don't you go and ask here.  http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/board/board/12.html There are a lot of breeders on that board and they will give you the best possible advice and one of them may even have a Border Collie bitch that they'd like to mate with an Obedience winner.

I think animal testing is a terrible idea. They get all nervous and then they give the wrong answers.

Today, I have been informed that there is not one space in rescue anywhere in the south and have been asked if I can foster two more homeless BC's which sadly I cannot as it just isn't fair to my dogs or my husband. I may have secured a short term foster home for the 6 month old boy but the 1 year old girl is still at the vets where she was dumped. Crying or Very sad

Thats so sad and at such a young age, when are people going to realise the   needs of   BCs  before they take them on and then  after  a short time dump the poor innocent thing.

It's because they are too easy to come by Lassie. Far too many effing eedjits breeding them. Rolling Eyes

Would somebody wanting to become a reputable breeder advertise on forums like this for a suitable mate?  Wouldn't they have like a mentor in the breed to help them learn about finding the right mate for their own dog?
Sorry but my opinion is that if you need to advertise on a forum like this for a mate for your dog then you shouldn't be breeding.

Border Collies for my money are way 'THE' most intelligent breed - fascinating to watch while they work - I would've loved one but being built for comfort and not speed   lol I know my limitations!! I know of one 4 month old boy up for rehoming now as his owner is finding him too  difficult to cope with (his intelligence outweighs hers!) but would she listen Rolling Eyes  "but they're so clever" - yes, they are, much more so than you!

Alanwilson - enjoy your boy for all his lovely traits, I'm sure he's great - please don't think about adding to the many unwanted and homeless.

Oh and champdogs would be a great place for you to visit with your question  Very Happy

Does the world really need another person breeding their dog just because?
There are plenty of borders in rescue, crying out for a good home. Some of them probably had "stunning" parents

Lol I wish i never mentioned it now!!
Never mind I was laughing today cos he decided to slowly and subtlely mount a 9 week old rodesian ridgeback!!!!

I think I've made up my mind not to breed him yet, I am going to adopt OAP dogs for a while to give them good last years of thier lives.

Either that or get a pup but I;m still not sure.

Just wanting to know what his hipscore is as you say his hips are very good?  I presume that you have had him x-rayed and scored via the BVA as there's only one way to tell if a dogs hips are good or not and this is the only way.

I had a heated discussion with a Spanish vet who lives over here at Discover Dogs in November.  He told me that no dogs in Northern Spain of my breed have HD as they all move lovely and none limp and that the southern dogs all have HD as they limp and are inbred.  I then asked him how come the worst dog in this country so far is a northern bred dog and he wouldn't answer.  But stated that movement is the way to show a dog with good hips.

In many breeds I have known the most beautiful moving dogs to have severe HD and the dogs with virtually no HD (score under 10) to move diabolically.

Until this kind of thinking has gone and all breeds are hipscored HD will never be irradicated!

I am glad to read that you have decided against breeding your collie - there are so many unwanted collies out there already and, in my opinion, the breed doesn't generally make a good pet in any case.
