I belive some countries have even more draconian legislation than that in the UK regarding dangerous dogs - I believe Germany is a notable case (http://www.naiaonline.org/articles/archives/germany.htm) - I think this isn't outdated, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Such legislation is misguided at best, and counter-productive at worst (I was bitten as a child by a standard poodle - I was riding my bike past the window of the house in which this dog lived - there were no people home - the dog lifted the ajar sash window, jumped through the screen and bit me - the owner assured us this was a one off - and she may have been right - but I digress - the point is that 'dangerous' breeds do not make up all of the 'dangerous dogs' out there).

If you adopt a dog from some charities, they'll do home visits and suitability assessments before supplying a dog - perhaps that should be the norm for all potential dog owners!

Im all in favour of some owner type test to be taken prior to ownership of a dog. all people should be made to take it, regardless of who you are and what you do.

My dogs a "pit bull" type dog and i could NEVER leave him on his own with a child he hasn't shown any signs that his going to attack(except once because a man was talking to my niece)
yes its a shame whats happened but what exactly is in these parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents/friends mind to leave a child with  a dog no matter how small the dog is or "friendly" dogs get irritable as much as humans

its ashame because dogs like mine(he scared of my new budgies Laughing )get looked down on

Police and vet actually know what his true breed is, they didnt ask who i got it off or what, i didnt go out looking for a pit bull and i aint going to see it fighting in the local park so i think some people are actually gratefull i got the pup rather then leave it with its father and mothers owners

Yup, with this attack the ones that are known about, may very well be taken away.

well he has been seen by many police officers and he is chipped, he now wears muzzle unless his in garden/house, and his due to be chopped when his 2 years old

so im doing everything by the book if i needed a certificate i would get one but the copper told me i dont need it

that be wrong dont you think? i know plenty other dogs other then "pit like" that have attacked kids over and over again(my old yorkie once attacked a child because his new owners had no control) and its never on the news why? because they aint "banned" i can bring this up cause i also have proof

yes there are other breeds that are 'dangerous'
top of my listt would be JRTS, Yorkies & chihuahuas Laughing
however they are not on the dangerous dogs list & therefore are not subject to the same rules & regulations as your dogs.
personally i would say the 'copper' was speaking out of his behind & didnt know what he was talking about, i do know & understand this law & if anyone in authority saw your dog then he would be at risk of euthanasia.
also why are you waiting until he is 2 to castrate him- i take it that is what you mean by 'chopping'?

A copper told you that you dont need a certificate..because you dont need a certificate because they are not supposed to be in the country. period.
Yes other dogs can and do bite, I was recently bitted by a Jack Russel. But the point is why have a banned dog? Whether or not you agree with the law, it is the law. That dog could be confiscated and destroyed. Did you know it was a PB when you bought it?

yes castrate im waiting till 2 because when i took him to get his injections they said they couldnt do it  thats the only time ive had to take him to the vets at the moment and when his 2 he will need booster ect

Truthfully if i didnt give two donkeys for my dog i wouldnt have done all  this after i had trouble with the vet saying i shouldnt chip him, then with his booster they said they couldnt castrate him
