I no im at fault with this and i dont know if anyone can help as he is nearly two
When i first got my dog i refused to have him on the bed, during the day when i was at collage my bf would put him on the bed   Mad and they would both sleep
as he got older he would climb up the bed during the night and go sleep
now i want to teach him not to sleep on the bed as he aint so little or light anymore and i can see him breaking one of my bones when he jumps on me, i no i could leave him outside but it is pretty cold at the moment and he dont like rain(maybe because i trained him with water bottle stuff)

I been told to train him with cheese but i cant really see this working as its only good with outside job

any ideas

also my dogs pretty tall(bull dog tallness) i hear crates are good but cant get the right size for him

Thanks

personally i would invest in a child/dog gate to prevent him gaining access to the room, i think this is the easiest way of doing it as even if you teach him he is not allowed to do it when you are there, if he is used to doing so then he will still do it when you are not there.

Shut the door or get a stairgate. He may create though. How about a really comfy bed on the floor for him. Perhaps treat yourself to a new quilt and give him the current one. Smile

completely knacker him out before bed..stair aerobics are good (throwing treats up and down stairs or a toy, so dog runs after them) have a good game of fetch, mega long walk etc. Then as you go to bed shut the door, or stick a stair gate up. You can get st bernard sized crates on ebay for about £70, they are very good solid ones too (i know, I have 4 of them for my buns!)

I like the knacker him out bit i(well my bf) bathed him the other day then was playing with him by the end of the night he threw himself on the floor (like how a kid throws a tantrum) but i felt sorry for him im going to look for crates now and he will be gettin my bed sheets(maybe rip them up)

This will sound mean, but when he jumps on the bed, say OFF and knock him off with your feet. He will get the idea eventually.

My honey always sleeps on my bed but i tes this out time to time last night it took 10 Off's over 20 minutes.
At fist she would come straight back on.
Then thered be a gap and then back on
Towards the end she would slowly slink back onto the bed.

This is what i can recommend if you want to make this permanent, I like my honey sleeping on the bed but neither of my other 2 do! If I kept up this routine eventually she would stop

As this dog appears to be a member of one of the banned breeds I would strongly suggest that the OP does NOT kick the dog off the bed.  Confrontational techniques with this type of dog generally have serious side effects, for the owner.

I think this could be managed with environmental management, ie putting a barrier between you and the dog using a dog gate at the bedroom doorway and making sure that the dog has an equally comfy bed for it to lie on so that it has no reason to get on your bed.

Dogs can learn new rules very easily at any age as LONG as you are consistent and NEVER let the dog on the bed.

Trouble occurs if one day you allow it and then the next you do not.  Dogs are opportunists and will always gamble that today is the day it is ok.

Of course if you have trained your dog to get on the bed and off on command there is no problem.

That is mean. Sad And could possibly 'hack off' some dogs. Rolling Eyes

Don`t see the point in this one. There are better ways to teach a dog!

Maybe the owner is getting hacked off at the dog! This works both ways!!!!

I stand by my choice of training on this one as it works if used consistently.
Its common sence to give the dog somewhere else to sleep.
