Protein is the answer for quick weight loss. As much clean protein as you can take. I used to box and so the need to control weight and reach target weights within a short period was a major issue as you need to be well under your actual natural body weight. I know you are vegetarian but do you know if protein shakes and bars are meat free? I can gain or lose as much as 7 pounds in 10 days depending on how much I train and the only consistantly succesful method for me is loads of protein, really hot baths and doing heavy weight sessions (this does not give you big muscles but does rip in to fat). The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism and the faster your body can convert energy without storing it. I also think weight itself can be misleading as is the body mass index. Judge success by clothes rather than scales. One thing that is absolutely certain, there is no way to cheat.

Of course, the problem with a protein heavy diet for a human (rather than a dog) can be flatulence, bad breath and bowel difficulties - though I'd imagine it's different for someone as active as Ryan.

I'm on a calorie counted diet, though mine is more protein heavy and carb and fat light than the site I use recommends.  It's early days yet, though, so I'll let you know how I get on!

Cheers

On the topic of dieting - you knew this was coming -
The first ever slimming pill for dogs

http://www.k9magazine.com/viewarticle.php?sid=15&&vid=0&npage=&aid=1746

Its manufacturer is keen to warn dog owners against the danger of taking the pill themselves.

Been reading your posts and can empathise fully!!
If any of you wants to lose a considerable amount of weight and address some issues around overeating, a good website is LighterLife.com - they have their own mag out too.
Def input versus output and one thing for sure - increasing your water in take will help as more than often - snacking is a response to misreading a "thirsty" message!
I wish you all well............

Good tip re the water there Cartmel.

If you drink enough ice cold water, that alone requires your body to use calories in order to heat up. It is actually possible to lose a non insignifant amount of weight by simply drinking ice cold water.
