Candi, While you are waiting why not try and get your little girl trained and assessed as a PAT dog, you can then do a lot for the breed by showing others just what good dogs they really are.

Hi emmy i had a look at pet therapy looks very good but after reading the critera i think as zilla is still a bit to head strong(she's half german lines), she gets very excitable when meeting people, i would hate her to injure someone. But she's only 20months so there's time for her to settle. but thank you

Nothing to stop you from making enquiries and starting to train her for this now, it may help her settled down. Not all PAT dogs are quite, when hubby was in hospital a Beardie used to come in, some days he would be really good, others he was be a little devil, the patients didn't mind, they thought is was good fun

she is doing her bronze good citizen at the moment, she has carmed down a lot since she started.
It said on the application not to applie for an application as they cost a pound, if your dog does not fit the criteria. Will give her till she has done her bronze and into her silver hopefully she will be alot calmer

Good luck with your KC GCTs and PAT assessment. One of my dogs is a registered PAT dog and it is probably one of the things I am most proud of.

This is what I meant when I said work towards it, the more training you do, the more chance she will have of becoming a PAT dog. When Bill died, the nursing home asked me to continue brining in my dogs for the patients but at the moment Merlin is the only one suitable but hopefully Tilly will be one day. Good luck, I am sure you will enjoy it.

I will probley cry when she gets her bronze (silly i no) but she has done so well, god knows what i'd do if she became a pat dog. Thankyou for your help emmy

No it isn't silly, my dogs are all rescue and apart from Tilly, they all came with bagage, at each breakthrough I have had a cry, it is the same with training them, sometimes because of they past they had problems, like Joe and his recall, but when it came, it is a wonderful feeling and it will be the same for you. As you get each one of them, it is because you have put the work in to train your dog to do them, you are entitled to have a cry.

hello Candi, you seem to have sensibly decided to wait & see, but i thought i would add my twopennorth anyway. i took some students to Battersea yesterday & they are completely over run with rotties of all ages & sizes i think the problem with breeding at the moment w(or soon) with all the media hype, is you will spend more time fending off enquiries from unsuitables who will want a rottie for the wrong reasons. keep on with the training, we have just started heelwork to music (yeah i know everyone else laughed too ) & Callum is really enjoying it.

lol claracloggs it's not a laughing matter doing heel work to music i think it's good, espesially as i can only just get mine to heel she's very eagore to walk at 10mile an hour she don't pull but i think were along way of your achivements. I understand how many rotts there are in rescues but i have been doing a lot of resurch and people that i no breeders, dog owners would not get a rescued rottie A: they would get a pup so they no the history B: so they can raise it properley as rotts can be a handfull C: so that they get use to other pets IE cats, birds, horse from a young adge. I'm still going to wait but the dog i have choose when i do has won lots of cc's and is highly thought of in the show ring.

i wish all rottie owners & breeders were as thoughtful as you there would be less like my little man with his health problems & less in rescue. we are doing quite well in heelwork to music, but only just started, we both enjoy it & thats all that matters to me Callum is also working towrds his gold good citezan award (ok i know im a show off mother ) good luck in the show ring! & good luck with the breeding when it happens. will you be at crufts?- as i will definately be going to the rottie ring!

No i'm not going to crufts I need all new top quality show stuff for my horse this year and because i'm not a millionare yet, i've got to sacrifice one for the other. The horse is alot better behaved than the dog and alot further along in it's training. Hope you do well with your gold let me no how it goes
