Who knows! They are supposedly pure staffy having been bred from regular staffs but the government (or DEFRA) have stated that Irish Staff is just another name for pitbull and so in reality are banned here in the UK.

unfortunatly some people have used the name Irish staff to import pit bulls so now the poilce think that all irish staffs are pits(especally in liverpool at the moment) which they are not. The irish staff has been breed from english dogs in ireland since the 1930 and have kept the orignal standard for the breed being a taller more athletic dog than what we see as staffordshire bull terriers today which IMP can look a bit stumpy

Is it a breed? Can anyone show me a breed standard (say from the KC or FCI)?

Actually our KC recognise nearly 200 odd breeds but that's by the by. If Irish Staffs have a standard then please put a link up to it for us.

Unless a breed is recognised by the FCI, KC or AKC, you're going to struggle to convince me it is not either a crossbreed or a dog that does not meet the standard. That breed standard looks like it was written by the bloke down the pub...

I see they are recognised by UNKC, ISF and IKC. Might as well be recognised by KFC.  Laughing

There are hundreds of unscrupulous breeders trying to convince people that these breeds actually exist...'cockapoo', 'old tyme english bulldogge', 'roman rottweilers' etc. I have nothing against crossbreed dogs/mutts/mongrels (growing up all our dogs were mixes from rescues centres), but I do object to breeders deliberately breeding these mixes to try and make a fast buck.

Right now find me the Irish Staffy breed standard as written by an Irish Staffy club which holds a register for the dogs. I could write a breed standard for a say 'Doodles' (Poodle x Dachshunds) and Dog Info would put it up there and list me as a 'breeder'.
Sorry that link proves nothing, apart from the fact that it's no wonder that Irish Staffy's are being seized as being of pitbull type under the DDA.
