Hello everyone, My name is Liz and I am new to Dogchat but I will introduce myself properly later.
I have an eight year old Bullmastiff/Rottie bitch who has just been diagnosed with untreatable bone cancer.
She has been prescribed Rimadyl 100mg twice a day but she still seems to be suffering. I dont want her to be in any pain but also I dont want to have her put to sleep too soon. Does anyone have any suggestions of any other painkiller I could try? She is a usually quite lively girl but at the moment she can only rouse herself for her food. I am struggling to come to terms with it myself and Im gutted to see her like this.

Hello there
Iam so sorry to hear about your dog my heart really is going out to you ... I would phone the vet and asking to give her stronger painkillers ... If there is really not alot more to help her with the pain iam afraid maybe its maybe to ask yourself the quality life question all us dog owners/lovers hate to think about but its the last gift we can give them well it is in my eyes ... Iam so sorry youll both be in my thoughts and prayers
Hugs

Yes im afraid i agree with dolly,

as much as this may not be what you want to hear, (wich i completely understand) maybe the kindest most loving thing you can do is let her go.

id check if you can get stronger painkillers first, but as dolly says, its a case a quality of life.

much love

Hi Lizzy,

I'm really sorry to hear your bad news. I agree with the others - strong pain killers if possible but you must decide if her life is still a happy one if you cant' eliviate the pain. I had a rottie who got bone cancer, when we found out we were devistated but spoiled her rotten for the last few months of her life, she was the happiest dog ever - lavished with love and attention and treats, she wasnt' even aware she was ill Smile then her illness became too much for her and she was pts, but we know we did everythign we could to make her happy.

Sorry if this is a bit depressing, i didnt know if it was the write thing to share this with you or not because I dont want to upset you more that you already are, just wanted to tell you to prioritise your dogs happiness.

all the best, katy x
