help!

Hello,

Wondering if anyone could help me!
I have a 8 week old Beagle, we have had him since he was just over 5 weeks old.
Throughout the weeks he inunfortunately becoming more and more aggressive, biting and barking - We have tried everything to calm it down
i.e -Ignoring him, putting him in another room, making loud noices, spraying with water - nothing seems to calm him down.
Other then he biting he's incredibly intelligen, sitting, giving me his paw, begging, going down, down on his side all on command. We try to keep him mentally stimulated as this is the only thing that seems to kepp him out of bother.
We took him to a puppy party last night, he pinned another dog by their throat, his temper preceeds him!
Any ideas for the biting would be a great help?!

Hi Beccy , the age you got your pup is FAR too young, hes missed out on so much with his mum. I always thought that beagles were friendly little dogs.

I know this is the problem, but the guy was adiment to get rid of him and we couldn't leave him there.
He is so loving (when tired)!!

He left his mum and siblings waaaaaay too early. He had no chance to learn any canine communication skills and that is why he acted as he did at the puppy party. Ask your vet to recommend someone who can help you to socialise your pup with older pups or adults that are good with puppies and won't hurt him whilst teaching him some canine skills. Best not to let him do that to another puppy again for the time being.

All of these things are likely to make normal puppy biting become more problematic.

Ignoring him is a wasted opportunity to teach him how to play appropriately, so is putting him in another room. Making loud noises could frighten him or increase his excitement levels. Spraying him with water will have the same effect and will also teach him not to trust you.

This is a recent thread on puppy biting, also an eight week old pup. Just ignore the last two posts on that thread.

I totally agree with everything you said below - It was the Vet who
told me to try these things.
He does play with my sisters Springer Spaniel who is the calmest Dog ever - He loves having the chance to play with him. He also lets Floyd know if he's going to far which is Fantastic, he doesn't hurt him, he just tells him when to stop. He gets his second lot of needles on Wednesday so il be taking him to see Rolo alot more and hopefully he'l learn whats rigght and wrong.
