Hi. Could anybody explain to me the respect points that some members have acquired? How they are earned, what they mean and who authorises them? I can't find anything on the forum to explain the system. Thank you.

Hi there,
Once you have made 50 posts you can award them or detract them from posters who you believe have made a good post or a post which you disagree with.

Actually, I personally wouldn't necessarily (ooh - adverb city) deduct points from posters I disagreed with - though I probably would if I thought the post was irresponsible, ill-researched or plain malicious.
Healthy debate is good. Single-mindedness and malice towards members who disagree with a given position is not.
But that's just me! On Dooyoo and Ciao, you can 'trust' people, and rate people's reviews. The etiquitte is that you don't downrate a review because you disagree with the opinion, but rather you rate how useful the review is to a potential consumer of the product or service being reviewed. I'd tend to feel the same about respect points.

Seems quite reasonable. I shall find out if it's possible to remove the ability to detract points. Can be very misleading I feel and can be open to abuse when 'board politics' come into the mix. Fortunately, we don't have any of that here as far as I'm aware :)
