A Maltese terrier called Trouble has found herself £6m ($11.5m) richer today having been left a huge cash windfall in the will of her former owner, hotelier Leona Helmsley.

Whilst Trouble will be content to enjoy the spoils of the massive cash donation Helmsley's other family members are likely to be spitting having been left NOTHING by the billionaire.

Aptly named Trouble was doted on by Helmsley and after biting former a housekeeper who tried to give her a bath, it is claimed and claimed Leona approved: “Good for you, Trouble.”

Another victim of Trouble's quick temper, a diner at one of Helmsley's restaurants was curtly informed: “I guess Trouble doesn’t like you.”

Disgruntled family members who have been completely cut out of the will may have had a sign of things to come when hearing reports of how far Helmsley was prepared to go to ensure Trouble got the best of everything.

Hotel staff reported that chefs were often told to "drop what your doing" in order to prepare a gourmet meal for the little Maltese.

The late hotel magnate's will read specifically: “When my dog dies, her remains shall be buried next to my remains in the Helmsley Mausoleum.”

I thought it was only 2 of her grandchildren that got nothing?

She said in her will that they get nothing, 'for reasons known to them'.

I think it's hillarious personally. That dog could (just about) afford to buy K9 Magazine and appoint herself as editor.

On a more serious note, taking consideration for dogs in wills is something many people don't consider as there is a stigma attached to it which gives the perception that only whacky old nutters (see above) do it. Many people assume that their dog will be looked after in the event of their sudden death but that often doesn't happen - people who are assumed to be the carers for the dog can occassionally decide they don't want the responsibility and hand the dog into shelters. Leaving a clear instruction and (if you have it) enough financial protection to ensure any dogs left behind in the event of an untimely death are cared for in a way that would keep them in the life they had become acustomed to is actually a sensible thing to do.

It would make a big difference to people if there are clear, written instructions contained in a will that state exactly what you would like to happen to your dog, who you would like to care for him/her etc.

Do they say who gets the money when the dog dies?
Otherwise in reality she has just left 6 million quid to the Government.

The dogs children? The dogs friends? Does the dog get to make her own will?

Anyway, you're overlooking the fact that Trouble is very likely to blow all that wad within 12 months anyway. I hear she has quite the eye for fine art, feberge eggs (and chicken, she loves chicken)

Just checked my post. Feberge eggs? What's that all about. A cheap Kinder Egg alternative to Faberge variety perhaps.

;D
I have a spoof hilfiger t-shirt. It is in the design of a Tommy t-shirt, but instead it says Jimmy Hilfiger and has pictures of Jimmy Hill incorporated into their logo. It's a classic.

I say its her money, if she wants to leave 6m to her dog then so be it. She left lots of money to her family (bar 2 grankids), left a fair bit to her friends and employees and distributed some to different charities. When the dog dies the money is split between different dog charities. If her dog is what made her happy in her life, then fair enough.
