Default Afghan Hounds are least intelligent dogs

Brainy dogs can be smarter than owners children | The Sun |News

I'm not having it.

No way.

I have met several Afghan's who were more intelligent than most people would know what to do with. Their intelligence is just 'different'.

Equally, Border Collies at the top. Yes, BC's are very smart, but I still believe their intelligence is being misread - they are exceptionally TALENTED at what they were breaded - or should that be breeded - to do. Second only to Huskies in my view in terms of dogs who are still absolutely hardwired to do a specific job of work, exceptionally well.

Don't see many Border Collies as drug dogs or guide dogs though, do you?

And so what? Just because a dog is trainable does not, in my view, make it any more or less intelligent.

I remember when I was at school, I was pretty untrainable and I'm rearoly intellibent.

No, not having this study.

Am going on the radio (Chris Evans, Radio 2) in a bit to discuss it. I'm going to try and give a shout out to the dog that I consider to the be 'most intelligent'

Boo yeah!!!!

Poor Mia LOL I remember reading an article decrying chows as thickies, because as said journo says a coffee table is more trainable... Now trainable and intelligence doesn't go hand in hand to me... to get my chows to do something there has to be a reason in for them... they're bright enough to know... fido, go fetch, is pretty pointless, unless there's a good old treat to go get... now who's the thickie... the dog that goes fetch at every call the owner says, just cause that's what a mutt does or the chowie who's reasoned if I train MY owner to give really good stuff and they get dead excited when I make a play for going to get it... I'll get even bigger and better rewards because my owners so happy I'm making out I'm a good dog LOL

See I admit I'm OWNED by my mutts, particularly the ginger whinger LOL They've trained me good LOL

See, Rupert is thick...really really thick, even with the Border Collie/Cocker in him...took him ages to figure out flyball, 6 months to down.
Kerrie OTOH is a bright little spark, will do pretty much anything I ask of her, takes her minutes to learn new things. Agility yesterday was brill,,,

To my mind, yes BCs are bright sparks, yes they can do ob,flyball etc...but how often do you see them being Guide dogs.

I think one of the brightest dogs is the most underrated Labrador...there aint much you dont see them doing

17:25 I believe.

Unless it gets shunted, in which case 18:10.

In between, 17:50 - I'm doing same topic - Radio Nottingham.
