Thought so. Maybe he just wanted to make me feel better about how well behaved his dog was.

Some wolf researchers are now thinking in terms of the parent pair rather than alpha pair; it's a family group.

Wrong dog then----sorry! Didn't mean to get you excited for nothing!

There is a chocolate merle called ............. Conner born at more or less the right time in the pups that Siren's future mate has produced. I assumed it was your Conner.

Talking of wolves....

- Terrierman's Daily Dose -

that'll set the cat amongst the pigeons...

it's got some pack theory, dominance, Cesar Millan, Ian Dunbar, aversives and more.

It's not so much a can a worms as an entire farm.

"Or perhaps a crocodile, or a lion, or an anaconda or a moronic Kerryowner. I guess that would be so your dogs don't immediately attack it....being terriers...agressive, fearless, and untrainable"

Oops - no need to get personal! This Kerryowner has 2 obedience trophies, one agility trophy and a heelwork to music award actually! So not untrainable and not aggressive! I was quoting from what the behaviourist says in the book about debunking pack theory and why she goes through the door first and not her dogs. We don't actually have too many pit bull dogs living in Norwich.

My dogs are a 'pack' of dogs, and they behave as a pack on the few occasions they all go out together.
But we aren't a pack.

I reckon... dogs act as a group similar to any human group in many ways, or any other group of social mammals - there are bossy ones, chilled out ones, ones who couldn't care less, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Zack, for instance, normally defers to Chloe on things like space, because she's bigger and would be a bit of a bully if we let her. But even though she's twice his size, Chloe doesn't take Zack's food, because she can tell he's serious about not letting her. When we're out somewhere, Zack is more confident than Chloe so she looks to him, though if Chloe starts barking at a dog Zack'll back her up, even though he wouldn't have bothered replying to another dog's verbals if he was out alone with me.
