ABSOLUTELY>

I once saw about 15 border collies (including my own dog aggressive one) cramed happily on top (literally) of each other, in the back of a short wheel base landrover, back cab. All happy. They had just spent hours moving a thousand sheep across moor.

It aint space. Its what Xigi said.

It is also down to being able to recognise signs of stress and deal with it.

Because we are in together at the moment and have lots with us I have to make sure Champa gets time on his own away from the crowd. Just coming in the car with me will do--or a game/run on his own. Or a really good blow out on the beach for an hour. The collies seem to cope better but he is a stressy beast anyway.

Interesting question. I've never considered the space as important.

I have twelve dogs now, I do have a fairly big house but we often spend a weekend or a week all together in a camper and a tent and we did live in a caravan for a year when we bought this house as it wasn't habitable.

I too have never considered space - time and the quality of that time is vital ... in multi dog households it is important imo to recognise the needs of each individual dog and endeavour to meet those needs - hence time is the key....... my five have varous needs - I have to be very aware that the less demanding characters don't get sidelined because of the more demanding personnalities.

For me, it is more a matter of how much space I have in the car if I want to take everyone out together.. Me,OH, Daughter and dogs plus luggage must fit in the car

Precisely

Currently 7 medium to large dogs.
Sure - there is no sofa space for guests, but who needs visitors

Depends largely on how happy the humans are to be surrounded by dogs, and to what degree I think.

My OH insists we haven't room for another dog. I'd argue that we have; but out of respect for him (he didn't want ANY dogs) I wouldn't have any more because he'd feel a bit "hemmed in" by them even though we've technically got room for probably 4 or 5.

Has he changed though KateC? My husband was a non-doggy person but know he is a mine of useless doggy info and gives training tips to other doggy owners if he sees them behaving badly (the dogs I mean not the owners!)-in a helpful way, not patronisingly I hasten to add. I have to stop myself laughing as he was talking to someone with a Dalmation not so long ago about hearing problems in the breed.... I am quietly impressed about how he has changed! I'm not sure if he would see it that way though.
